i completely forgot to follow up about the family tree!

so my brother put her on it and my mom definitely thought it was weird! ha!

she absolutely loved it though. i did ask her in private and she said even more so because you can add events and people, it's bizarre that he put her on there.

unfortunately i can't even really look at it. it's ruined to me so i don't find it special at all. once (if) they get married then fine, it's right then. but now, i feel like i am looking at a notebook that a high school girl scribbled on.

the funniest part of the whole thing is that one of my very good friends is also friends with my mom and got her a family ornament for her tree that has every single one of us on there and not the crazy girlfriend. LOL

oh and my parents are celebrating milestone birthdays next month and my sister and i wanted to get a nice portrait done of us kids/grandkids. we decided no picture was better than a picture with the girlfriend b/c you know damn well my brother and her would be a little biitch about including her.

When DH and I were living together, but not yet engaged, his family did a picture and his mother made it very clear that I was there to hold the coats! Last year (married, obviously) new Granville meant a new portrait, and this time, I got to be in it... Though my BILs (married to DH's sisters) kept making jokes like, "gee, you are awfully dressed up for coat holding!" they (everyone except ZmIL, actually) all thought it was ridiculous I wasn't in the first pics years earlier...Though, to be fair, MIL hates that DH's first wife still hangs on her wall in the family pic of the wedding from SIL.Don't sweat this stuff... It will either mean something or it won't but nothing in the grand scheme of life!

I am actually bummed for you guys, it's such a beautitful idea that has that odd addition to it.

My sisters and I have talked about doing something like this but at the same time it's kind of unspoke that we aren't ready to reflect on some of the people or events from our family's history just yet.

she's 21. he's 33. they don't live together and have been dating a year.

i personally think she should be holding the coats. its a family tree. carved in wood. she can be added later on.

and i'm certainly not sweating it. it's just ridiculous that we can't do meaningful things because of some crazy little girl.

and i think it was tania or pooks that said it but there are certain things that come along with getting married and being included in a family tree or family portrait are some of them.

That sucks Jess. I know how you feel. I can't look at half my wedding pics because my brother's mail order bride is in them. I only included her to be nice even though I KNEW it wasn't going to last.

I'm sorry that such a special gift has been tainted in your mind. I hope, for the sake of everyone involved in the special gift, that they can make it work and that she grows up and stops being such a psycho.
