Update on "mutilation"

Update 1am Eastern: Via Pittsburgh Tribune-Review?

A knife-wielding man robbed a McCain-Palin campaign volunteer and etched a ?B? into her face after he saw a McCain bumper sticker on her car, the woman told Pittsburgh police.

Police planned to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred, police said.

FYI: Todd?s MySpace page has been turned private, but cached links are here.

Her Facebook profile has been deleted, but the cached front page is here.

Update 9:30am Eastern 10/24: She told police the assailant sat on her chest and pinned her hands down with his knees.

So much for all those thinking the attacker was upside-down with her head between his knees.

Re: Update on "mutilation"

  • I think it is sad that the media would post her MySpace and Facebook page.  Sometimes I feel like there will never be anymore privacy.

  • Well, you can only see her picture and friends, to be fair.  My fb page isn't public, so there wouldn't be much they could do, for instance.

  • I've said my piece about why I don't believe this girl but I would much prefer to wait for the police to tell us the truth before we tear this girl's life apart.

ETA: is it supposed to be "said my peace"?  I'm  having a mind fart.

I know I am the only one that feels this way, but I have no problem with it whatsoever.

Agreed.  I think people aren't smart about the false sense of privacy... but it is a false sense.  You choose to put information on the internet.  My husband won't even be on facebook for that reason (it's sad, he won't even friend me, sniff sniff)  But it's probably much smarter than my having pictures, etc.

I don't post anything about when I'm traveling or anything like that.  It just seems better to be cautious in that regard.

Thanks for the update, BB.  I'd been looking for one on the blogs this morning and hadn't seen anything yet.  What a mess.  I hope she gets some help.

  • I still feel terrible for the girl but differently now that she has been shown to be desperate for attention.

  • So I guess the attacker was just dyslexic?

  • Even if he was sitting on her and pinning her arms, she'd be able to move her neck back and forth. As a short and feisty girl who is easily physically overpowered, I know of what I speak.

So I'm with you all in calling shennanigans, and also hope she gets some help for her clear mental illness.

I don't think you're alone at all.  The media didn't post those pages.  She posted those pages.  The media looked up what she put out there specifically to be seen.  I do think it's absurd that the media is treating myspace and facebook like news sources, but I guess they're like everyone's personal party platform now.
