Need Ideas for Must-See places
My husband and I want to do some traveling before we start a family. We really enjoy road trips and are looking for some awesome must-see places to visit in the US. We have not been to too many places together so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Need Ideas for Must-See places
I am a HUGE fan of Boston and the towns that surround it (especially Rockport, Ipswich, and Salem). There is so much to do, good shopping, good food, great history!
Another New England suggestion, Bar Harbor, ME. Ross and I take a couple of days in the beginning of June for some "us" time. The restaurants are fabulous, the beach is nice (but cold), and Acadia Natl Park is right there. Early October the fall foliage is at its peak. Not good for more than a couple of days though, it's small.
If you're looking for more of a hot relaxing place, Sanibel Island in Florida. White beaches, good food, and a wildlife refuge.

...
San Clemente, CA
Oahu, HI...anywhere HI!!

DH and I have not really done any traveling together, yet, which is why we want to wait for kids.
On our list of places (in US) to go together:

I was there for work last year for two days, and I'm pretty sure I gained at least 5 pounds. I've also been dreaming of po' boys and beignets at Cafe du Monde ever since.
As other posters have said, a New England road trip could be really fun. Start in Bar Harbor, and travel down the coast through Portland and Boston, RI and into CT. Or on the opposite coast, do a trip up California. Also, San Antonio is nice for a day or two - the Riverwalk area is pretty nice- and then you could hit up Austin.
Current posts already have some good suggestions:
Bar Harbour, Camden, Maine Coast (my brother now lives there) but go in summer and watch out for black fly season
New Orleans but not in the summer - too hot to enjoy walking bourbon street during the day.
Boston - spent a summer there on work travel. Easy to use public transportation to get around. So much to do there.
If you like the outdoors and mountains:
Rockies
Canadian Rockies - my personal favorite
Olympic National Park (not very crowded and has mountains, rainforest and tidal pools)
