Organization nightmare

Ever since my now husband moved into my apartment (1 bedroom...not a ton of space, but does have a his-and-her's closet, which I struggled to clean out to fit his belongings), I have been extremely stressed because of the clutter and mess we have!

We have wedding gifts and shower gifts piled up lining one side of our bed next to the wall, and lined in the wall in the dining room. We have way too much stuff and not enough space! I have tried over and over to throw things out/give things to Goodwill, but we're still really struggling with space issues and it's causing us to fight more than we normally would. Is anyone else having this issue? How are you dealing with it? Any organizational tips or ideas? I'm going to go crazy here if we don't figure this out!

We'll be here for another 7 months for sure, and possibly another year depending on finances and if we can find another place like a duplex.

Personally, for a short-term thing I wouldn't want to spend a lot on furniture, shelving, etc. purchases unless they were pieces we would want to keep and move. Consider boxing some things you don't need/use but want to hold on to and storing them in a friend or family members garage or renting a small storage unit (they're very inexpensive for the small ones). Also, make sure you utilize all available vertical space in closets - box things in same/similar sized boxes for neater stacking. Over door shoe racks can free floor space for extra storage and I like those inexpensive plastic deals with the three drawers for keeping things like underwear, socks, undershirts or craft items corralled.

What other areas or items in particular do you need help making space for? I hate to ramble on and on when I'm not talking about areas you need help with

I agree with getting the stuff out of your place. See if your parents will let you store some of it in their basement or attic until you move. Is this stuff that you'll use once you have more space? If it's sitting in a box now, and will be sitting in the same box in your new place (whether you move tomorrow or 10 years from now), then you don't need it and can return/sell/donate it. I try to keep as much stuff out of our house as possible (one of my reasons for wanting a real tree last Christmas was so we wouldn't have to store our huge artificial tree in the basement all year).
