Thinking about getting a cleaning service...
DH and I both work really long hours. I feel like we never have enough time on the weekends to get the house as clean as I'd like it and by the next weekend its a disaster again... and we don't even have kids yet! I am debating on hiring a service to come in every other week to do the deep cleaning so we just have to pick up and do light dusting and vacuuming. I am wondering if it is worth if it they only come every other week or every three weeks or if it's only worth it if they come weekly. Any input? I've never used a service like this so I'm not sure what exactly it all entails!
TIA!
Our little hippo was as impatient as mom!
Hoping for a full 40 weeks!!
Re: Thinking about getting a cleaning service...
We have one every other week and it's amazing. That schedule works perfectly for us. The light housework we do is laundry, sweeping, cat litter, dishes and wiping down surfaces when needed. They do the heavy dusting and bathroom cleaning. It also inspires us to get our crap cleaned and put away because obviously it won't work as well if they have to try to clean a cluttered house.
They've cleaned our oven in the past, too, for an extra charge, as well as windows. However, the "deep cleaning" organization projects, like closets and under the bed, are all mine, obviously!
Maybe assigning different tasks to different weekends will help, too? I have a list of monthly tasks that I try to get done on weeknights (for small things, like deep cleaning the coffee pot) or on Saturday mornings.

I think we are going to give it a shot and see how it goes. If we find that it isn't helping us that much we just won't continue but I'll make sure I advise the cleaners of that at the beginning. We've tried breaking it up over weekends but there were two problems with that. 1) our house was never completely clean and that frustrated me and 2) we rarely have enough time on weekends to do even the minimal stuff! Maybe things will slow down but somehow I doubt it. Our wedding was a month and a half ago and then the holidays came and so on... but DH's family has get togethers ALL the time so I feel like its a lost cause.
I'm glad that you guys didn't tell me every two weeks was a waste... I have hope now!
Yes, they have a key. I guess I never thought much about it (although some of my friends thought I was crazy) because my parents had a cleaning lady when I was a kid and did the same thing. I went through an agency (Molly Maid) that is bonded and insured. Anything happens - injuries to the employees, damage to my possessions, etc - and they have the means to pay for it. If the office loses the key, they pay to have my locks recored.

We have someone come every other week. It seriously has saved our marriage.
DH and I are each out of the house 13+ hours a day, so weekends and any minute we're home is precious to us. I do pick up daily and try to maintain until the cleaning people come, but admittedly I don't deep clean at all. It doesn't seem to get bad until a few days before they're coming anyway.
DH does laundry, shoveling, and garbage, so I try to do all of the picking up to make it a wee more fair.
They come when we're home. I feel weird when they're here, because I'm usually just moping around and I'm sure they think I'm a lazy a$$, but whatever. I wouldn't feel comfortable w/them here w/o me, because my cat doesn't like people and might try and escape.
I've been through a few services and so far these people are ok. I like that they use green products.

We have a cleaning service come once a week. We have a set fee of $80. Sometimes 2 people are here for an hour or so, other times its just one person for 2 hours.
I don't see how it would take 8 hours to clean a house (2 people x 4 hours). But it depends on how much they do. We don't expect them to do laundry, change sheets, etc.
My mother actually owns her own house cleaning business.
She's been in the business for 20 years and we live in a SMALL town.
Her customers absolutely value her and she gets quite a few calls each day asking her to come and clean their house!
I just wish that I could afford it, because I would absolutely invest. (Not in my mother, but in general, hahaha)
45 are gonna party with us!
2 are big jerks!
63 are stressing me out!
