any flybabies out there?

I'm new to fly lady-- could you explain to me the difference between zone work, blessing hour, and detailed cleaning. How often and when do I do these.

TIA,

 Kecia

Re: any flybabies out there?

  • zone work - you'll work on a room/area per week.  You do 15 minutes in the current zone each day.  Depending on the situation in each area, you'll spend those 15 min decluttering, then you move onto Kelly's missions, maybe deep cleaning, etc. Maybe you'll be deep cleaning the kitchen one week while you're still on the beginning step of decluttering the bedroom the next.

blessing hour - one hour once a week when you do all the weekly chores such as vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, etc.  When you are really efficient at cleaning and used to doing all the daily chores and keeping things decluttered, you'll find you really only need an hour once a week to do these 'regular' chores. Also, some thing you will need to do more often than she says, such as vacuuming if you have pets.

detailed cleaning - not positive, but this sounds like Kelly's missions.  When you are in a zone, once you've worked at decluttering it, you can spend your zone time doing the deep cleaning such as vacuuming under the desk or bed or sofa cushions, doing the windows, brushing down cobwebs, etc.  I believe she has detailed cleaning lists to get you started for each room, but she does stress not to worry about detailed cleaning and 'vacuum the middles' until you get the clutter under control and everything organized.

I'll be honest, I really only follow Kelly's missions now (...sometimes...).  The thing flylady taught me was to keep my work areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and counters and tabletops clear and free of clutter. We mostly have paper clutter, I know with some people it's chatckeys, etc - and I do have plenty of cluttered areas still, believe me. But when your work areas are clear you are more likely to just take care of little chores, like cutting the tags off new clothes, as they come up rather than letting things sit around for days piling up (like leaving the new clothes in the bag in a corner by the front door or in a closet).
