New Ford Focus

Ford is making an all electric and an electric-hybrid version of the Ford Focus available later this year ... I'm not a Ford person, but I'm glad to see they're getting into the hybrid/electric game. My '96 Civic is just about ready to retire, and I want a hybrid or all-electric for my next car.

It's nice to have options!

Re: New Ford Focus

  • We're planning on having our next car be electric. We plan on getting one lightly used, so in a few years. We adore our F-150, and a friend has a '05 Focus that has been very reliable, and she puts on the miles. So I'm definitely keeping my eyes on the electric Focus.

  • I'm all for electric cars, but not until we have the renewable electricity to support them.  If you buy electric now, you really should research what type of fossil fuel is used to generate the electricity for your home.  Here in the northeast, our electricity comes from coal.  Coal creates much, much more greenhouse gases than gasoline, and burns much dirtier also.  Here in VA our electricity also comes from mountaintop strip mining, which has ruined dozens of communities in West VA due to water pollution, not to mention the stripping off of the top of a mountain!

Electric cars may be the "hot thing" right now, but they're not green if they run on coal-powered electricity.

Yes   My thoughts exactly.  I keep trying to tell people this.  Just because it looks good on the surface doesn't mean you should jump in without researching!

On that note, I am pretty jealous of a good friend who has solar panels and is considering an electric car.  I'd love to have a set up like that.
