Moving question

I'm in the process of packing/moving from MI to PA and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to pack up bathroom stuff? Such as hairsprays, lotions, body wash...etc. I usually just chuck it all in a bin but I'm trying to figure something more organized out since we have further to move this time!

TIA for any suggestions!

Re: Moving question

  • Put items in plastic grocery bags tied shut if they're in danger of being squeezed. Put a layer of items standing up then put a towel on top and tuck it into the spaces to hold everything in place and upright. On top of that pack non-bottled items (hair dryers, etc) and use a separate box for other standing items. Make sure you label those boxes with 'UP' to prevent them being placed upside down on the truck.

  • Last time we moved I put everything in a tote. I lined it with newspaper on the bottom in case anything would spill. All of the open bottles I put in plastic grocery bags. When I packed the tote I tried to put all of the bottles in the center and other things around it (q-tips, box of tampons, bars of soap, etc.) because I figured if none of the bottles could move around I'd have a less likely chance of them opening.

    ^^ Great ideas.

I also made sure that EVERYTHING was labeled, I used a tote but I didn't want to open 30 of them to find my necessities.

I bought a brand spanking new label maker yesterday just for that! We have lots of Rubbermaid totes, and a label maker for them now!

TY all, trying that in a few minutes.

  • Rubbermaid tubs are always great. One trick I learned from my dad who owned a moving business was to take a piece of toilet paper or a papertowel and wrap it around the opening of any spray or pump bottle that doesn't have a lid to it. Then you press it down and put a large strip of tape (packing tape is the best) over the top and make sure remains tight as you pull it down. I always made sure my tape went at least down 3/4 of the bottle. Make sure the tape is also in place to hold the toilet paper in place as that is what keeps the bottle from leaking all over you when you tape it up.
