In the ER

I'm miserable. Miserable and scared. I started some severe vomiting and diaarhea (TMI - sorry) around 11 last night and at 5am it was still going on. I couldn't even keep a glass of water down. I started to fear dehydration and called my ob, who paged my dr. He told me to go to the ER. I've been here for over 4 hours now. They gave me an IV and some meds for the vomiting. I still don't feel any better but have to assume I am. The ER doc won't do an u/s bc I'm not complaining of spotting or cramping. Its killing me not knowing that everything is ok. Now I'm waiting for some test results and hopefully I can go home soon. I'll gladly take any thoughts and prayers that you can send my way. I'm not at all worried about myself but def worried for LO.

  • T and P are on the way!!! Feel better soon. And FWIW... call your OB on Monday and ask for an appt to get you and the baby checked out!

  • T&P are on the way!! maybe you and your cat should combine bowels for a while?

I'm sure baby's fine if you haven't had cramping/spotting. But I know I would be fa-reaking out too. Whens your next appt? Is it soon? If not I would call and see if they can bump it up a little bit. Also when your bladder is nice a full from all the IV fluids, try using your doppler again! I was able to hear our LO right at 10weeks, but I literally felt like I was going to piss myself the entire time. Maybe LO will cooperate knowing what youve been through and let you hear the hb tonight/tomorrow so you can relax a little bit.

    My overly happy baby girl!

  • so sorry dani :( maybe you have the horrific stomach flu that's going around?  that sounds like what everyone i know went through.

i would call your ob tomorrow and see if they'll give you an u/s or at least use the doppler in the office.  my ob was very good about giving me one if/when i was concerned about the baby.

    feel better :( xoxo

  • Oh Dani! I'm praying for you! I really hope you feel better soon and like the others think that it's a good sign there's no bleeding or cramping and maybe it's just the nasty stomach bug that really is going around. Maybe it's a good sign the doc won't do an u/s! I agree with Crows, maybe the OB will do an u/s or doppler to put you at ease.?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Keep us posted. I'll be praying!?

  • That really sucks Dani.  Hope the meds are helping.  T&Ps are on the way.

Its probably a stomach bug.  If they thought the baby might be in any trouble they would be checking.

  • Sending you lots of thoughts Dani. Stomach virus's are the worst! As everyone else said, call your OB tomorrow and I'm sure they will take you in. But it's good you have no signs of cramping or spotting. Keep us updated!
  • TMI: but i wanted to add that while pg i had the most horrific stomach virus. it was coming out of both ends and i could feel the baby freaking the eff out everytime my stomach contracted when i would have to throw up.  it was terrible and i was so worried.

i'm sure if you call the dr, they will fit you in. you obviously are sick so they should be cool with it.

the hospital won't even do a doppler? i would ask. that seems weird to me.  i can understand not doing an u/s. but it doesn't take much to do a doppler.

  • Oh my gosh! Sending lots of prayers your way! How scary! I hope you get better soon!
  • Still here. The doc ordered a second round of fluids. I got 3/4 of a cup of jello down. Here's to hoping it stays down. The doc is kinda a jerk and said its too early for a hb. I will def call my ob tomorrow and see if they will squeeze me in. My next appt isn't until jan 28th :( thanks for the words of encouragement ladies. This is not where I expected to watch the ravens playoff game or how I expected to spend my birthday weekend :(

  • They could do an internal and hear the heartbeat, we heard Kiley's at 6 weeks with an internal, but anyways call your doc tomorrow. That dr. does sound mean!  Hope you can keep the jello down! Hopefully you'll get discharged before the game starts =)
  • T&P's heading your way Dani. I hope you start to feel better. Can you ask to see the OB that is duty? If not follow up with your OB tomorrow like you said.

  • OMG I totally missed that at first.

I really hope your feeling better. I have two friends that were in the ER more than once for extremely similar symptoms.

Ditto *Pugs* they can do an internal, I hope you get in to see your Dr.

  • What a crappy birthday. I am a little late to the post so I hope a few hours later now you are feeling better. Let us know how the call with your doc goes tomorrow.

  • {{hugs}} I hope you feel better soon and your LO is ok. No fever, right? The stomach bug is the suck, but if you're not bleeding or cramping, that's great! You could see a heartbeat, at the very least, on an internal u/s. I don't like your ER doc AT ALL. Obviously has no people skills, or else he would recognize that you need the reassurance. Wait until they change shifts and ask the next dr.
  • Oh Dani, that sucks!  I'm so sorry!

I lost weight in the 1st trimester and at times it would really freak me out b/c I was worried my little one wouldn't get what she needs.  My mom told me something that has made me feel better since:  Don't worry too much about her.  No matter what is going on with you, she's a little parasite; she'll take whatever she needs from you. :)

You got to the ER, and you got hydrated.  Women with hyperemesis are in a similar situation and they have babies that are fine.  I wish I could give you a hug!

I'll be crossing my fingers that your OB squeezes you in and gives you some peace of mind.

  • Oh no, I'm sorry!  I had the same exact thing last week and it was horrible.  I had to call my OB emergency line at 2am for them to prescribe me anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medicine.  Luckily I could feel the baby moving the whole time.  Baby kicking while you are barfing is not so fun.

I called my OB the next day to see if there was anything I needed to be doing, and they really didn't even ask about the baby.  I think as long as you are able to stay hydrated the baby is fine!
