About 2 weeks before Christmas, I had a brunch for my parents, my sister's family, and 4 friends. Originally, it was because my 2 friends were going to come to my family's Christmas Eve dinner, and I wanted to introduce them to my family beforehand. Then scheduling confusions occurred and I ended up with all these people over. It was crazy, but enjoyable, though, so no worries.
Fast forward to this weekend: MH has been feeling like his family should get to have brunch at our house and says Friday night that he wants to do it this Sunday (today). *sigh* Okay, putting aside the fact that we had to attend a potluck holiday gathering for his family up in Jay the first weekend in December and that I'm in school again, this is important to MH and I love him, so I start cooking and cleaning. His mom, however, decided last night that she would no longer come because of the impending snow-- the entire whopping 1 inch of it. MH is hurt and disappointed-- as per usual-- because his mother can make it to Bingo late at night (when she can't drive well because of her eyesight) but not to his brunch. Awesome.
So now I've done all this cooking and cleaning (and am still cooking and baking) for the spread MH wanted-- for just him, me, and my SIL and nephew. The SIL whom I don't like to spend a ton of money and effort on because she never returns any of the sentiment. I wish there were a way to exchange my ILs so that they were more worthy of MH.

Re: Waylaid by the ILs again...
I feel your pain on this one. Sadly, you did the best you could and were a gratious and amazing wife. I can't tell you the amount of times that this has happened to us with MIL. She picks and chooses when she can drive places and its basically come down to that she will drive anywhere anytime, if she wants to do it.
:::hugs::: Enjoy your tasty food.
Thanks, Ladies. I *did* blow up to MH before my SIL came over-- he was getting cranky (probably because he was bummed) and I finally just snapped and told him that I was angry at his mom because she doesn't appreciate him and only does things that are convenient for her, not him. I think he was stunned by my being angry when he has just come to accept this state of affairs.
He thanked me profusely-- especially after seeing that his sister ate two bites of the sausage egg casserole (but had a heaping plateful that now goes in the trash) and his nephew ate 2 pieces of bacon. The nephew was a total crankpot whiner who was pretty much behaving badly the entire time (thanks to his father who had him all day yesterday).
BUT the silver lining? I have leftover popovers and a TON of the egg sausage casserole, which will make having a decent breakfast before my 6am clinicals this week very easy! Yay!
And now it's time to read up on post-c-section patients while MH does a ton of dishes...
This. DH doesn't understand why I am angry at his mom. He's just accepted the fact that she didn't go to a single football game (an he was an all state champ) and she skipped his graduation b/c she was closing on her house. When we bought our house, we were able to pick when we closed. Grr. She continually makes promises to him and breaks them. Such as "I'm going to come every other week to see my grandbaby". She's come once. And secretly I"m thankful. She also has called and blown up at him for not paying enough attention to him since the baby has come. I put her in her place (so I think she's really angry at me), but he just says he'll try harder. It's HER job to establish a relationship wtih her grandson in my opinion. Not DH's. But he just constantly is getting smacked around by her. It's so annoying.
Anyway...what a huge bonus that your house is clean and you have food for the week. I wish that happened at our abode. Not so much. Although we do have cranberry orange muffins. Mmm. And I am hoping to make some of your bread later if I have a cooperative baby.
