**LB, Lucky & anyone else re: The Hunger Games/ Mockingjay Spoilers
I finished reading Mockingjay today. I'm kind of sad it's over, I felt so invested in Katniss, Peeta and Gale.
I feel like I rushed through the last several chapters of Mockingjay because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I'm going to have to read the series again maybe in a few months.
The more I think about the end the less pleased I am with it. I hate that Prim died after all if that. It's almost like Katniss could have not volunteered for Prim when she was selected. I do like that Katniss took out Coin instead of Snow. It was a good move, I'm sure Coin would have been just as bad as Snow.
I'm very much a happily ever after kind of person so I loved the Epilogue. I'm pleased that Katniss and Peeta are together and have a family.
Overall, I loved the whole series. I'm looking forward to the movie in 2013. It will be fun to see the craziness of the Capital come to life. I just hope they don't do something stupid to the storyline.

Get out of my head, lucky! Seriously! I agree wholeheartedly with everything she said.
I wasn't so much sad or disappointed about Prim's death (I get that main characters get killed off in series like this), but she was killed and that was it. Nothing. It just seemed so flippant and after all of the fuss and drama at the beginning of the series with Katniss taking her place and thereby saving her life, Prim's death just seemed so... insignificant.
I absolutely despised the ending. I was trying to remember why I hated it since it's been so long since I read it and I found an old thread where lucky and I talked about it back in September.
If I'm remembering correctly, there really is no interaction between Katniss and Peeta in this book. Or at least not a lot. The author didn't even build to the point where the epilogue was justified IMO. She could have build a relationship between them to justify choosing Peeta over Gale in Mockingjay, but she didn't. Katniss didn't like what Gale had become so she just defaulted to Peeta and a loveless rest of her life with him? Not the way I would have chosen it to end, that's for sure.
FTR, my H thought the end was crap. That's all I've gotten from him so far. He finished the book today also so we're going to discuss later
Exactly. It really just seemed like settling to me.
Jodi: The "real or not real" game and moments in the tunnels were nice, but to me they still felt like a friendship and that Kat treated Peeta the way she did out of obligation and a "friend love" that grew over time as opposed to a romantic love.
While I agree with Lucille and Lucky, I think I kind of always wanted Katniss and Peeta to be together, so I was happy in that respect. However, I do think there wasn't enough interaction between them to put them back together, and the epilogue did seem like a cop out.
I hated Prim's death in that it was mentioned in passing, and not made into more of an event, since avoiding Prim's death was the catalyst for the whole series.
I think what broke my heart the most was Finnick's death. And I was also surprised at how 13 seemed to be just as bad as the rest of the country, they didn't really gain independence, they were still living in a strict orderly fashion, it was not democratic and you even had your schedule tattooed on your arm.
ETA: I think that if Gale hadn't designed the bomb that killed Prim, he might have ended up with Katniss, but since it was Gale's idea for the bomb, Katniss wouldn't ever get over that.
I think you're right, Lucky that Katniss and Peeta's love was more friendship based. Maybe that's what Katniss needed since she was scared to fall in love, get married and have a family.
I just read these books on my trip, so I can finally join in.
I agree with a lot of this. I always kinda liked her with Peeta better, so I was happy, but after the hijacking it was hard to believe they could really be happy together.
The epilogue reminded me of another epilogue to a popular series that was also a little too happily ever after let's tie up all the loose ends real pretty.
Finnick's death was also super sad to me. That whole "mission" seemed kind of pointless. It didn't have any effect on the war ending except for her to selfishly get other people killed. I don't know, maybe if they had actually accomplished something it would've been ok, but there was nothing.
