Rompin' Rovers - Puppy potty training
H and I are having some trouble with our yorkie, who is about a year and a half. He has been going to the bathroom inside A LOT! We tried puppy pads, letting him into the yard, everything. I am not sure what to do at this point. So I found a trainer who is coming out to our home for a one hour session. I am really hoping this works! Has anyone else had experience with something like this? We did the puppy classes at PetSmart but they were really geared towards dogs obeying commands like "sit", leashing, etc. I found Rompin Rovers by googling...I am keeping my fingers crossed!!

PAIF/SAIF/PGAL welcome
A quick glance over their site looks good. I like that they specifically say 'we teach YOU how to train your dog.' We haven't had to use a private trainer but would if it was necessary. Have you taken him to the vet to get looked over? He could have a UTI.

I was thinking the same thing about a UTI or another medical cause. Hopefully the trainer will help. Good luck.

My sister who has a yorkie has this problem. Apparently it is specific to the breed.
My sister (and my parents who watch the dog a lot) just take the dog out all.the.time. to use the bathroom.

I hadn't thought of the UTI but I will check with the trainer. She said yorkies have small bladders...well that is sorta obvious...but he was better behaved before. I think. Maybe I'm delusional. He used to go to the bathroom outside because he hated the grass and I wouldn't let him in until he was done. Now he loves going outside and plays forever and then still goes to the bathroom when he comes in. The puppy pads are sort of a problem because we have a corgi and she goes wherever the yorkie goes. Her potties are too big for the pads.
The weird thing is they do really well when we are at work and they are put in a room for the day. They have plenty of food and water, their toys, and a few puppy pads are down just in case. They rarely will go to the bathroom in there and it is a pretty big room. But when I am home all day, he just goes wherever he wants and I have to search for it unless the corgi finds it first!
This is how my dog, Bo, is. Not sure what it is about wandering around a big house that makes him decide he has to pee but if he is confined, he is great. I guess all the territory? I dunno but I just make sure I left him out a lot when I'm home and even make sure he actually goes. Sometimes he tries to pull a fast one on me and walk in the grass and come back to the door and I have to say "GO POTTY". lol. Then he turns around and goes.

We do keep the pads down all the time, even when we are home. We even have them upstairs when we go to bed, just in case. Maybe a leash in the backyard is a good idea.
