Snow Day!

Our school corporation NEVER has snow days and this is the 2nd snow day we have had this year!  Totally shocked!  I was actually on my way to work before I even found out we did not have school today.  Then I find out that right by the school I work at got 40" of snow this weekend so it makes sense.  I live about 30ish minutes away from my school and we got about 25"-30" and the roads are fine.  Either way it is nice to have the day off!  Yay!  Anyone else get lucky enough to get today off due to weather?

Re: Snow Day!

  • I never ever get snow days.  But, that's likely because I don't work for the school system.  My work never closes.  We're supposed to get a foot of snow on Wednesday and I live an hour away from work, so I'm guessing I'll probably take a sick day.

  • Here in Maryland we actually get quite a few.  Last year we were closed for a solid week when we got 2 feet of snow in February, and this was after getting the 3 days off before Christmas break because of snow!

We haven't had any yet this year but we're supposed to get some snow tomorrow so I'm hoping for a day off!

  • We haven't had a good snow here yet.  I'm soo jealous.

Also, there is a rumor that the University of Michigan never gets snow days.  This is because apparently someone sued the school b/c they weren't getting what they paid for when there were snow days.  No idea if thats true or not, but we've yet to have a snow day since i've been here

  • I work for a university, and we never get snow days. I think in the 5 years I've been here, we've had 1 full day, and maybe 2 "go ahead and leave early" days. Of course, we haven't gotten 40 inches of snow here in a long time, either. And for some reason, anytime we get a "big" storm, it seems to hit on a Saturday, so it's all cleared up.

We're expecting a foot of snow Tuesday into Wednesday, and I am supposed to leave for Amman (via NYC, no less) Wednesday afternoon.  I'm not happy.

  • No snow day here either, I am working hard planning for next semester and waiting for the copier to be fixed so I can finish printing this semesters exams!

We also are supposed to get a little snow tomorrow night, probably not enough to close school, but I work at a very rural school (where many roads aren't even paved) so you never know!

  • I went to Marquette in Milwaukee, WI and while I was there we had 2 snow days my junior year (the first time the university had snow days in over 10 years), 1 my senior year and 1 my 2nd senior year (I was in a 5yr program). We learned to always keep champagne and OJ on hand the week that a lot of snow was predicted. It was awesome!

OP- where in Indy do you live?  I didn't really they got a ton of snow b/c we don't really have any in Chicago.

  • Gosh I wish we even get snow here in southern Arizona, don't think I've ever gotten a day off do to the weather...it rains like crazy in monsoon but sadly they don't call work off for that. tho sometimes wish they would when its coming down in sheets and you can't see anything but it only last for a little while then the suns back out in no time.

  • Snow day here in ATL!  We are thrilled, as we don't tend to get much snow as it is.

Hannah-I live about 3 hours north of Indy in Elkhart.  The Michigan state line is 5ish minutes from my house.  We are close to the University of Notre Dame.
