Missing Wedding Photos

Responding to Xan's post motivated me to post this.

I feel like there are some pictures our photographer took that we haven't seen.  My most pressing photos are those of our first dance.  Ken and I actually went to the effort of choreographing it a bit with some twirls, dips, etc and there are only two photos I think of him dipping me.  Our photographers should have captured this.  Friends and family took some pictures but they were all from behind.  Do I contact the photographer and see if he has any pictures of it?  Or do I trust that if there were any good ones he would have included them?

I also am disappointed in the number of detail shots we got.  I see all of your photo books and blogs and the details are almost always my favorite pictures.  That was what I did the most work on I wanted it captured.  Before I do my photobooks or scrapbook I am planning on doing my own photos of the rings and favors.  I shouldn't have to, but I want the pictures.

Sometimes I feel like I am just being critical because they are my own wedding pictures and if I were an outsider I would love them.  But I am always jealous when I look at the other weddings on my photogs website.

Re: Missing Wedding Photos

  • I know your feeling, but I also think there are some things that photographers just miss if they weren't specifically requested, or if they were busy catching something else.

We don't have any photographer pics of us actually cutting the cake.  We have the cake, us feeding each other cake, and kissing after eating cake, but not phsyically cutting it.  Thankfully some family got those shots and they're decent enough to add to the album.

I wanted to do a 10.16.10 ring picture like so many who have 10.10.10..my photag even commented on what a cool idea this was, but we didn't get a shot...so that's something that is hopefully easy enough for us to take a pic of.

But I think you're also right about the criticalness (if that's a word) about it.  But if those things, favor etc., are important to you, then it doesn't hurt to snap some shots yourself ya know?

I'd absolutely contact the photographer.  When we first got out 700+ pics back there were specific pics I knew we took that I wanted that were not there.  When I called, they told me that if they were "good enough" they were included.  Mike and I went in to see what "good enough" meant - and we ended up with another 150ish photos that were "good enough" for us, and when we asked why they didn't make the cut, they gave us half-as$ answers.  I def recommend checking it out!

I also felt like some people had better photos, some were more creative, some were more detail-oriented, etc.  But then when I look back at mine, I realize I did have a lot of those shots as well.  I think we're overwhelmed with our own photos and def critical of them.

  • If there are specific photos you're looking for and that you know you took, then you absolutely should ask for them.

In retrospect, I'm disappointed in my photos because there are absolutely no formal shots of just us. There are plenty of us with other people, there are photos of us during the ceremony, there are some of us with the cake, but literally none of us alone. It's my fault, because I said I wanted mostly casual shots and I wasn't really aware enough in the moment to realize that we weren't taking the right photos.  But now, I see everyone else's wedding photos and they're so creative and awesome, and I get really annoyed about it all over again because we will probably never look that good again!

When we first looked through the pictures we loved them!  But over time we have noticed there are NO formal pictures in the church of just the two of us following the wedding.  That is really disappointing to me!  I may call my photographer and see if she has any that maybe I want that I have not gotten yet.

  • I don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll go make my own, but yeah, I think there are missing pictures.  I know *some* pictures are unusable (blurry, etc) but it seems like a lot of missing.
