How's Everyone Doing?

I realize it's already noon where some of you are, but it's only 9am here in CA.

My weekend was nice.  We had my mom's b-day dinner on Sat.  It was supposed to start at 5:30 but everyone was late and we didn't start until 7:30.  It actually worked out though.  I made the Hershey's Chocolate cake (on their website) and it was a huge hit.  I'm not a fan of chocolate cake (yeah go ahead and flame me...lol) but this one was really good.  I'll have to update my blog and add this recipe.

Sunday was our lazy day and we watched the playoffs.  I'm sad that the Saints and Colts didn't win, but so glad that the Ravens and Packers won.  I'm so looking forward to the upcoming games.  The Jets Pats game should be good!  Citygirl- are you excited?

  • yup, it's lunch time  here.  I'm munching on a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich from the roach coach.  I <3 breakfast food.

I just cant seem to get warm today though.  I'm ready for summer again.

  • I decided to work from home today, and I need to scrounge up some lunch soon because I'm starving.

I was actually really excited about the games this weekend - normally I don't really watch football, but I really wanted the Saints and Colts to lose, and IMO they were both really good games no matter who you were cheering for.  It didn't hurt that I drank 3/4 of a bottle of wine during the first game.  But even Sunday's games were good - I was hoping the Packers would win and I guess I was cheering for the Ravens, so it was a good weekend.  Again, though, the games were close and pretty exciting, which made it MUCH more interesting to watch.

  • Our weekend was pretty good here. We probably got around 18 inches of snow Friday thru Sunday, but it was light and fluffy. DH and I both worked Saturday morning and then went snowshoeing Saturday afternoon. The rest of the weekend was kind of a lazy one, which was really nice.

Next weekend is going to be crazy as I have six of my students going to a test session. I will be at the rink by 6:15 am Saturday then drive 2 hours and be at that rink until 10 pm and then be back from 8 until 6 on Sunday. So this week is all about making sure everyone is prepared.

Go Packers! So glad they won!

  • Currently cold....bbrrr. Had to move desks on Friday and the heat isn't on here in my zone. Aside from that, not too bad. H and I are going to one of my cousins tonight for dinner (should be fun since she has a 9 month old baby). Other than that, hoping this week goes by fast as I have a 3-day weekend...whoot!

  • I'm sitting at work with nothing to do, praying my boss won't give me busy work and nursing a pounding headache.

My weekend was good.  Had a talk with DH about my job, got some awesome highlights, and made delicious caramels.

  • 18" geez.

I'm pretty bummed that we spent a whole week all the way up at Sugarloaf in Maine and it didn't snow at all.  The slopes were all ice.

That is disappointing. It was like that last week here, we had a big melt and then when it got cold again everything was sheer ice. The hills were actually refunding tickets and encouraging people not to go skiing or snowboarding.

I haven't been skiing at all this season yet and I live within 15 minutes of 5 hills. :(

it's so frustrating to live where you are supposed to have snowy winters and hardly have any snow and all the mountains are icy!  really makes me miss tahoe :(

wknd was busy, lots of cleaning and shopping and organizing. then there was the AZ shooting, which has really just rocked my world.  F*ck sports, no offense, but my attention and energy is on other things right now.

at least at the end of this week, i will be having an uplifting and fun ski weekend with lia and arosem and their hubbies--it is the only thing getting me through :)

  • I am trying to be postive and happy today about being back to subbing when my last job was Dec. 10th! I should be happy, but I am pretty bummed about having to work every day this week, including Saturday.. *sigh* We really need the money, so I shouldn't complain, but it's hard to get back to the grind.

The weekend was pretty boring overall, but I was excited to spend some time with one of my old BMs who just moved back into state... I miss just hanging out with her. H spent pretty much all day Sunday shoveling a track into a local lake so they could ride on it... it was a long day for him, but it will be worth it next weekend when we can ride without all the work.

After work I need to make a Target run to get $30 back since the chest freezer we bought last week is on sale this week, and the new phone I got at Best Buy last week is now free at Office Depot, so hopefully we'll get $50 back from that too. I will be really annoyed if they balk at price matching when I have the ads and receipts.

  • Shauni - I can't even imagine how you must be feeling.  The shooting rocked my world, and I didn't know anyone involved.  I'm so sorry.

  • I hate snow, and we're expecting more here tomorrow. I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to work. These people never close. PITA. I'll take my computer home in case.

I had a fantastic weekend. Just sat around Friday night and made white chicken chili. Saturday I did some hausfrauing before heading out with my cousin-in-law for some day drinking. It was a ton of fun, lots of shenanigans. I stayed at her house and got home around 4 Sunday.

Last night we snacked a lot and MFD snoozed. I watched The Craigslist Killer on Lifetime. Psycho!

The Eagles lost and I don't care. Not an NFL fan, I prefer college football. But my alma mater lost Friday too. Boo.

  • We had a fun weekend - went to a wedding in Phoenix. There were tons of people in town for the Auburn/Oregon game tonight.  H and I kept laughing that these people had enough swag to wear their gear every day from Friday on.  Our hotel was probably an hour from Glendale, but about a quarter full of fans.  Yikes!

I'm already dreaming about next weekend - another holiday, plus the annual reunion of my grad school friends in So. Lake Tahoe.  Yay!  I'm going to make caramels, marshmallows, and some kind of brownies - hopefully that uses the homemade caramels and marshmallows - to bring along.  It'll be a busy week!

  • Doing good today, had a meeting with my boss this morning and got some encouraging and positive feedback at work, so that was good.

Over the weekend, DH came home from work Friday and told me he got a big raise at his job!!!  He took me out to dinner to celebrate.  Saturday he had to go in to work for a few hours to catch up on some things (guess they are making him really earn the raise!), and I went to bring him food and see his office for the first time, so that was kind of cool.

Sunday, I made an amazing dinner in the slow cooker - Honey Mustard Chicken - I'll have to post the recipe! - and cleaned the entire house from top to bottom.  It needed it badly since DH and I were away last weekend and I didn't get to do my deep cleaning the way I like.  I vacuumed, polished, dusted, did laundry, scrubbed the toilets in all three bathrooms, two showers, etc, you get the picture.  Then DH and I hung out and pretty much just watched a movie and vedged.  Perfect Sunday.

Also, since we are on the verge of TAX season, DH and I discussed what we're going to do with our refund.  We're expecting at the LEAST to get our $8,000 tax credit incentive from buying our house, plus we've both always seemed to get refunds on our own, interest on the house is tax deductible, etc.  When all is said and done if we estimate correctly we'll be getting between 12,000 - 15,000, maybe a little more.  It's been a dream of both of ours to go to Europe once together before kids come into the picture, and we think this is the year!  As soon as we get our refund we'll start planning our trip for sometime this year!
