Re: Football Fans part 2! What a weekend!
I think I am 0-4 for this weekend, lol. But I like that nothing was predictable!
As for next weekend:
Jets @ Patriots: Go PATS!!! (but you knew I would say that, lol)
Ravens @ Steelers: my cousin (a Steelers fan) has been trash-talking me, so I'm all for the Ravens taking it.
Packers @ Falcons: heh, wouldn't mind the Packers taking out the Falcons at all...
Seahawks @ Bears: Go Seahawks (have always had a grudge against Chicago since Superbowl XX, lol)
So yeah, I guess I'm rooting for all the underdogs next week, except if they're playing my team.

Jets at Patriots
Ravens at Steelers
Packers at Falcons I know there are a lot of Packer fans, but if they win, and Chicago wins, they will play....and I don't want that to happen.
Seahawks at Bears Let's just say Chicago is thrilled to play Seattle!
We'd much rather play them then a few of the other choices! Go BEARS!
H is currently watching the Packers game on DVR as I type this, but I already know they won and am happy about that.
Next weekend:
I'm going for the Jets because I don't really like the Pats (sorry Kiki).
I like the Steelers over the Ravens....not sure how strong the Ravens would be against Pitt.
Of course I am picking the Packers. (I love my hubby too much not to pick them),
I don't think Seattle can beat the Bears, but I'm also not sure I want the Packers to face the Bears in the next round. I think I'm a wash on this one.
I of course am rooting for the Pats to crush the Jets just like their game a few weeks ago
I really am not sure about Ravens/Steelers though I'm leaning towards wanting Ravens to win cause I would rather play them!
Packers/Falcons, I don't really know or really care haha sorry Packers fans!
And my Dad is a big Seahawks fan so I'm going for the underdog in that one!
DH & I at the Light Festival
I was 1-4 too! I'm just bummed that the Saints are out because of course, that's who I would have been rooting for the whole time.
As for next week's games -
Who I WANT to win: The Jets, the Steelers, the Falcons and I can go either way on the Seahawks or the Bears.
Who I THINK will win: The Pats, the Steelers, the Packers and the Bears.
My heart says: Jets, Ravens, Packers, Bears
My brain says: Patriots, Steelers, Falcons, Bears
I think of the teams left I am most heavily rooting for the Jets and Bears; I always liked Da Bears, not sure why, maybe from when they were all crazy in the 80s - anyone remember the Superbowl Shuffle and William "Refrigerator" Perry?
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
Great, Great, Great Wild Card Weekend for this girl :-)
I was two missed FG's away (thanks a lot, David Akers!) from a perfect 4-0...But I'll take 3-1, especially because my RAVENS are not the one! What an epic beatdown delivered on the road yet again. Towards the end, it almost seemed unfair. But I'll take it :-)
Now, on to this weekend's games:
Who I want to win, and why:
Ravens v. Steelers: Do I really need to answer this one? LOL...We split the season with these guys, and each team won on the other's home turf by a 3pt margin. I've loved and hated this rivalry for years, and personally think it's the best in the NFL. It promises to be a bruising, hard fought game. No doubt.
Jets v. Pats: Ummm. Jets!!! I really have nothing personal against the Pats, really. As a lover of the game, I absolutely admire and respect the great teams they field every year. But Rex is family to us Baltimoreans, not to mention a few of our favorite defenders from teams past. And it's also as the saying goes: "Nobody ever roots for Goliath". Enough said.
Packers v. Falcons: This is the one game this weekend where I honestly could care less who won. But I suppose I'll be rooting for the Falcons, for similar reasons as above - Mike Smith is a former Ravens coach, and I admire what he's done down there in Atlanta. I also begrudingly like Matty Ice, Turner and their defense. They are a low key team that wins and goes about their business. Not much to dislike in the Falcons. But if the Packers win, I won't be heartbroken.
Seattle v. Bears: Wow. This is my hardest choice of the weekend. In fact, I'm not choosing - I like both teams. I've been rooting for the Bears all season (actually, for many, many years, if truth be told), and I simply love them, their coach and their team. I also love a good underdog story, and I did indeed root like crazy for Seattle this past weekend...so, I'll call this one even as far as my allegiances. If the Bears win, I'd be quite happy, and if the Hawks can pull another upset...I won't be mad at 'em!
Let the games begin!!!
It was definitely a crazy football weekend but hasn't it been all year?
My picks for this upcoming weekend:
Ravens vs. Steelers: Steelers. I don't think the Ravens can pull it out.....
Jets vs. Pats: I don't like the Pats at all but they will probably win......
Atlanta vs. Packers: Packers! we almost beat Atlanta in the regular season, we've got their number this time!
Bears vs. Seattle: Seattle! They beat the Bears in the regular season so I'm rooting for them again!

What a weekend! Go Packers!!!! WTF Saints?!?! I can't wait for the games this weekend, it's going to be awesome!
Jets at Patriots: I don't think the Jets have a chance, but I'll be rooting for them, only because I really don't like the Pats! :P
Ravens at Steelers: I SO hope the Ravens win (which is a stretch for me), but I really hate all Pittsburgh teams!
Packers at Falcons: PACKERS!!! They almost did it in the regular season, I hope they can do it in the post season!
Seahawks at Bears: I'm going with Bears, but they can be a bit inconsistent, but it would be funny if Seattle won!

Yes, Yes, I do! And George Wendt on SNL with his, "da Bears... da Bears..." Unfortunately, it was that '86 Superbowl where the Bears crushed the Patriots that put a damper on my enthusiasm for them... oh am I dating myself here!

hahaha! Would you believe I actually bought a copy of "The Super Bowl Shuffle" and used to play it and dance around to it? LOL And yes, Kiki, I'm dating myself, but I was a teenager and loved the Bears, so what could I say?
Background: Most here on this post are sports fans who likely know this history, but when I was 14, my beloved (we were season ticket holders) Colts left town on a dreary, rainy, sleety afternoon in March. I came home from school to find my family transfixed on the news and in shock. All these years later, and I wouldn't wish that feeling on a die hard sports fan, no matter the sport...
Well, anyway, without a home team, and still in love with the NFL, I learned to adopt other favorite teams as my own. Mostly, it was the NFC East (Giants, Eagles, Cowboys & Skins), but that list also grew to include the Bears and the Raiders, and a couple of others over those years. Even though we got a new team back when I was all grown up, I still have fond emotions and still root for my childhood fill in teams...hence my looooong list of favorite teams!!!
And that 85-86 Bears team is still one of my all-time favorites. I'm convinced they're the reason why I love and value strong defense above all in my NFL teams. What an interesting turn it was that Buddy Ryan's (the architect of the Bear's 4-6 D) son Rex was the one who brought that bruising style of play back in vogue with the Ravens...well, I could go on (sorry - can you tell I LOVE this sport???)...and on...and on...
J - E - T - S Jets Jets Jets! Hahaha! You all know I my feelings towards Brady and the Pats, so go Jets! : )
I want the Ravens to win. I just like Ray Lewis. I don't know. And don't like the Steelers.
Da da da, da da da da Go Pack Go! : )
Seahawks all the way!!! Can't stand Da Bears! : )
Stacy, can I just say that I envy your command of the game... I love to watch football, but I get so lost sometimes trying to understand all the plays. I'd say, I have an advanced beginner's knowledge of football, lol. I tried Football for Dummies years ago, but never got through it. I should crack it open again. I thought getting the NFL Network subscription would help school me in NFL history (saw a great couple of documentaries while house sitting my boss on the '68 Jets and the culture of the Terrible Towel), but seemed every time I watched it once I got it, it was Cheerleaders on Parade or some such crud. I watch football for the boys' butts, not the girls, lol!
And yes, I do remember the Baltimore Colts, and the Houston Oilers, and the LA Rams...

Thanks, Kiki! I'm a little abnormal that way...my preferred reading when I was like, 9 or 10 was the autobiographies of Johnny U, Lenny Moore, Sammy Baugh and all of the old NFL greats...hahaha! To say I was a sports nerd was an understatement :-)
And I know what you mean about the NFLN...it has changed dramatically! It now has shows like "The Coaches Corner" "Game Day" and many other shows that feature entertaining and educational commentary from some of the game's recents greats: Marshall Faulk, Rod Woodson, Jamie Dukes, Warren Sapp, Trent Green among hosts, like Rich Eisen (love him!)...The only girls you really see now are the female reporters and hosts, so they have grown up in that regard.
My best advice? (Provided there is no lock-out), is to try to watch some of the draft in the Spring. The Draft coverage is really great, and it's neat to see the players walk across the stage, and then grow into bonafide stars as they mature.
But it's so cool to have other football loving girlfriends, here on the Nest...I have a few girlfriends who are into the game, but most could care less about football, unless it's Super Bowl time :-)
Jeff NEVER misses the Draft, so I have gotten into watching it after being forced to for seven years. : ) I agree, though, that you can learn a lot from the draft.
I am also a football freak!!! I love it! I'm the odd duck out, but I prefer NFL over college. The level of playing is just so superior, and you get to know players and coaches so much better, from all around the league. I have been a fan of football since I was in the 3rd grade (about 8), and haven't stopped loving it (or the Lions) since. None of my friends really have a clue about football, so I look like a freak to them. My oldest sister though is as crazy about college football as I am about the pros.
Cool, I've never watched a draft, will give that a try this year! One of my favorite things is, when I go home to visit my mom, I usually drive back on a Monday to beat the I-95 traffic. During football season, I turn the radio to the sports network and spend as much of the drive as I can listening to post-game commentary. I hear a lot of terms and pick up some stuff this way, and find it fascinating. I almost love hearing the talk as much as watching the games.
I get my love of football from my mom (though my dad is an avid watcher too). She dragged me to games when I was a kid. Hated it then, but it planted the seed and I can't get enough of it now. I haven't done it yet, but I fully intend to get a football outfit or two for the bambino!
Football girls rock!
