Boston knottie looking for restaurants recs
Hi ladies --- I'm popping over from the Boston Knot board in hopes that you may be able to help me. We are headed to Napa and San Fran for our 1st anniversary next month and I'm having the hardest time finding the perfect San Fran restaurant...there are so many!
We are looking for something not too trendy and stuffy but great food and atmosphere --- the kicker is our anniversary is 2/14 so I may be limited b/c it is Valentine's Day and I have a feeling that I need to book sooner rather than later. We are staying in Union Square but are not limited to that area.
TIA for your help
Re: Boston knottie looking for restaurants recs
Here are some options that I think are good but not over the top (all are fairly close to Union Square except Baker St. Bistro);
First Crush - California
Ponzu - Asian Fusion
Baker Street Bistro - French
Wayfarer Tavern (it just opened and I haven't been but its supposed to be really good)
Good luck and happy early anniversary!
congrats
I don't ahve much experience with the SF dinning scene, but I LOOVE The Slanted Door.
I was going to suggest Wayfare Tavern as well...we're going in 2 weeks (it's Tyler Florence's new restaurant).
First Crush is good.
There are so many good places... in so many different food styles... in so many different parts of the city, I don't even know where to begin. What kind of cuisine do you like? I recommend yelp for ideas and narrowing down your choices... and BOOK ASAP!!!!!! Vday is kinda crazy for restaurants in SF (probably anywhere, but we have stopped going out on Vday bc it's such a zoo, we go the day before or after) And you will find a lot of places already booked up by now.
"Oh come on Gromit, a bit more, you know... alluring!!"
We went to Absinthe for our first anniversary and really enjoyed it! I would highly recommend it.
Happy early anniversary! (I'm originally from the Boston area. You'll love SF if you haven't been.) Enjoy!

Another vote for First Crush. It's a smaller place, very intimate, great wine list, good but not craaazy expensive or anything.
Another thought (although kinda out of the way from Union Square) is Beach Chalet. I have a personal affinity as we went there for dinner after we got engaged on the beach that it over looks, and had our rehearsal dinner at the sister restaurant the Park Chalet (which is down stairs)
