Update Friend's Wedding and other Shenanigans...LONG

This weekend turned into a bit of a clusterf!!!k for me. Friday was my meeting with the theatre, which I think went well but I was so stressed out getting there that I didn't feel as on top of it as usual (basically I checked mapquest the night before and it tole me the trip would take 10 minutes less than the time it told me the morning of, so I had to scramble getting ready and the whole day kind of went like that). I was constantly getting to places barely on time, which I hate.

We also had my friend's (one of my BMs) wedding this weekend in our hometown 3 hours away. This is the friend who blew up on me about us having a much shorter engagement than her (6 months vs 2 years) and getting married 3 months before her (she knew her fiance longer, I was stealing her thunder, etc, you know the drill), so I was a bit less than enthusiastic about going. I want to maintain a friendship with her, and hope that now that the wedding is past she will be somewhat saner (which might be naive of me but I hate losing friends).

I wanted to look at new dresses to wear to the wedding which proved to be moronic of me because I could not find a single dress in stores that was cute, fit me correctly, and that I could afford. I ended up basically telling Nick, "that's it. I'm not going. I refuse to look schlumpy at this girl's wedding". I found a cute cardigan and ended up wearing with one of my older dresses and it was fine, but dress hunting in January suckxxxxx.

The wedding was actually very nice and my husband loved seeing his fraternity brothers. It definitely wasn't what I expected. I had gotten the impression that she was having a much bigger wedding, but the ceremony was so lovely that I felt a bit bad for holding a grudge against her for the things she said. That being said, everything else about the reception and dinner was pretty forgettable (4 glasses of wine probably helped that :).

We'll see what happens with our friendship after they get back from the honeymoon, but I'm not holding my breath.

I guess we got hit with bad karma from making jokes about Nick going to the wedding in my wedding dress or getting a quiver of thunderbolts and a beard for me to wear, because the ride home was awful, with our old dog getting sick and pooping and puking in our backseat (luckily we were only 30 minutes from home by then). He was been pretty lethargic since then and hasn't been eating so a trip to the vet might be in the future. :(

Props to anyone who made it through this post. Sorry I wrote so much, but I kind of needed to get it out, as trivial as it may seem.

  • Sorry to hear that your weekend was not all that great :o(  I have the hardest time when dress shopping so I can feel your pain.  I hope your week goes better for you :o)

I am kind of curious...you mentioned you were going to a theatre.  Do you work in the theatre industry?

  • I went to school for theatre  (costume design) but I have been less than successful getting a theatre related job after graduation. I pretty much have been nannying to make money and I have done a couple of shows on the side. I'm hoping that this will lead to more connections and experience.

  • That is so cool!  I like to do community theatre during the summer (only really interested in musicals).  My first theatre experience I made the mistake of telling the director I would love to help with whatever they wanted help with so I was put in charge of costumes with one of my good friends!  However it went well and I have not been scarred for life as I keep going back :o)  Best of luck to you as you find a job!
