Top of "The" Cake

Hey ladies,

Have any of you who already celebrated your anniversary eaten your cake topper? Ours is in a box wrapped in foil in the freezer and I'm just wondering how many days in advance I should take it out to thaw" It seems like a dumb question, but I don't want to stick a fork in it and have it still be frozen. Our anniversary is next Sunday, the 16th,  and we're heading up for our romantic weekend away on Saturday, so I need to take it out at least Saturday morning.

And for a backup, since I know it'll probably be gross, I am having a gluten-free cake made to pick up on our way so we have something to really enjoy after our anniversary dinner. Yay! I'm so excited!

Re: Top of "The" Cake

  • I can't really help you with the defrosting question, but good call on having one to pick up. Ours was only frozen for a week and I thought it was gross, although I hate any type of frozen and thawed bread-type products.

You're weekend sounds great, have fun!!

ps...how much snow did you guys get last night? i was expecting 3 inches, and we got around 9...poor pepper loses her legs when she goes outside haha.

  • I let ours thaw in the fridge for 2 days, and then set it out the morning of so it would be room temp to eat, but ours was a rather large top tier. Everything I read online recommended fridge thawing for 1-2 days.

  • Mine thawed in the fridge for about 18 hours and was completely unfrozen by the time we cut into it.  The icing was the nasty part, the cake wasn't bad.  I'd skip the icing, that's the part that gets the freezer burn and stuff.

  • Thanks ladies! I think I'll just take it out Saturday morning when we're leaving for the weekend. It's carrot cake, so I have hope that it'll taste good, by my expectations are very low. haha

Melk, we got about 7 total. We were expecting about 6, so no surprise. I drove up to Newport today and all along I-95 was WHITE. It was so pretty :)

ohh i can imagine how pretty it was. I'm assuming that by now, it's mostly brownish gunk..but hopefully the pretty white will stick around a little longer

  • We took our cake out of the freezer yesterday morning and ate it later that night. It was completely defrosted. It did not taste as bad as I thought it was going to but it was not something that I wanted to eat a lot of. We both ate a few fork fulls and tossed the rest of it. It was kinda sad to get rid of it...it had became a permanent fixture in the freezer.

This. Haha Sean can't wait to get it out of there, it currently takes up about 2/3 of our already-tiny freezer.
