hi, trying to get better at house work

HI, I am kinda learning how to  be a fully organized house keeper for my house. I mean I clean the kitchen and do laundry clean the house , but  i get bored and I am quite un organized . what would be a good cleaning schedule? like 5 min in ever room? and one big clean every weekend?

Re: hi, trying to get better at house work

  • Check out the flylady website. It has really helpful stuff. I like the routines that she suggests for morning and evening. I adapted her advise to meet my needs. I am now using my mac's calendar and made a "chore calendar" where i have 30 minutes worth of chores each day. That's what has seemed to work for me!
  • I second flylady.

I personally do 20-30min in a room twice a week. and then a quick clean up every night

  • Ditto Flylady.   I started 6 weeks ago, and LOVE it!!

  • I'll third the flylady website.  I only started about 3 weeks ago, but it's made such a HUGE difference.  I was a total clutter-freak and very disorganized and all of the sudden my house is not someplace I dread staying.

  • I have used flylady, and she is very helpful, but don't be afraid to modify her basic plans to fit your lifestyle and home.

Also you can google 'cleaning blog', 'organization blog,' 'chore list' and find similar-type programs. Same is true of modification here.

  • I'll be the odd man out.  I can't stand Fly Lady.  It's been years since I checked it out, but I found the site condescending and unrealistic.  She was always demanding I do impossible things (like clean your sink right now at 2pm, um, no lady -- I'm at work), or insisting on things that I think are ridiculous ('getting dressed down to the shoes" drove me bonkers.  I don't wear shoes at home.).

There are certain things I try to do every single day -- clean the kitchen, run and put away one load of laundry, use roomba to vacuum one room, use the steam mop on one room.

Other stuff I do as I notice it.  If you need more of a schedule, set aside 10 or 15 minutes a day to clean.  I break up cleaning bathrooms into different areas, based on what I think is dirty and what I feel like cleaning.  One day I might clean all the toilets in the house.  The next I might clean my bathtub, then the next day, I'll clean the bathroom counters.  Doing it all at once takes longer.

  • I chose to set types of chores or one room for each day of the week. I have cards on the fridge to remind me of what really needs to be done that day. Mondays, I vacuum & dust the living/ dining room. Tuesdays are small baths (sinks, toilet, bath if needed). Wednesday is the day before garbage day, so we pick up the yard, clear out mail, & trash. Thursdays are the quick sweep day (guest bed & baths) and we also take care of dogs (teeth brushing & nail clip) so it gets done. Fridays are our bedroom, dusting, laundry & sheets. Saturdays are kitchen clean up & Sundays are bathrooms. Dishes get done everyday or two as needed. Just find a place for things and it will be easier to make yourself wipe down an already cleared countertop or side table. Figure out what makes sense for you to do & when. For us, going more than a day brings big trouble.
