Wedding Dress Cleaning

Hello hello!

I just got married in December and wanted to know where you would recommend I take my wedding dress to be cleaned/preserved. I certainly don't want to spend a fortune but would like to go to a place that has given good service to a recent bride... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 Thanks!!

Re: Wedding Dress Cleaning

  • I brought mine to Wedding Gown Care Specialists in Plymouth.  I want to say it was around $200.  I know there was a coupon online.  The cleaning was great.  They do not seal the box and if you ever notice any discoloration you can bring it in and they will take care of it for free.  Very professional in my opinion.  They also only deal with wedding gowns which I think is a big positive.
  • I don't know where you should go, but I can tell you where not to go: Martinizing.  They're terrible

Ditto this!  They did a fantastic job on my dress--both cleaning and repairs.

I never did anything with my dress since it wasn't really a wedding dress, but I went to Wedding Gown Care Specialists with my sister in law's wedding dress. She and my BIL got married here in MN, but lived in MA at the time so I took care of her dress after they left back for home. The price was really reasonable and the lady who runs this shop was really nice.

  • Would this still be worth doing even though it's been 3+ years since our wedding?  There are no major stains that I know of...

Yes!  I took my dress in 1.5 years after my wedding, and my friend took hers in at the same time--it was FIVE years after her wedding!  When she'd put her dress in the closet after the wedding, it looked fine, but when we pulled it out to have it cleaned, there were giant yellow stains down the front--turns out, she'd spilled some white wine down her dress, and the stains oxidized and turned yellow.  But after cleaning, it was bright and clean and stain-free... looked just like new!

Over time, I think that oxidation process can be very damaging to the fabric, so if you have any interest in your dress surviving the years intact, I think it's worth having it cleaned...and better late than never :)

Interesting.  I have no grand visions of any future daughter wearing it for her wedding but it would be nice to have it nice and clean anyway.  :-)
