What kind of school did you go to growing up- public, private, home school...?

I went to public school the whole 12 years. The school system was really good where I grew up because of the university, but I am not sure that I would send my kids to the high school that I went to. It is not the same place that it was in the 80s when I went there. It's much rougher now. I would still send my kids to elementary/middle school there and I would send my kids to public school where I live now.

I went to public school. I grew up in a small-ish town so there were not many options. It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either.

I went to a public school. I was one of the lucky ones who went to every school in the school system. They don't do that now since the schools have grown so much. We are currently trying contemplating the idea of sending the boys to private, but we have a long time to decide.

I went to public school. Where I grew up, there weren't really any other options (only choice was Protestant vs Catholic schools). DH got a scholarship to go to private schoool, and now he's a firm believer in the private system - the current plan, depending on where we're living, is to send our hypothetical kids to private school.

I went to a Jewish kindergarten (I'm not Jewish)

A public elementary school

A Catholic junior high/high school (I'm not Catholic)

The girl I share the office with also went to a Catholic high school and we agreed that we really liked a lot of the aspects to it, and that we'd be comfortable sending our kids there.

Um, yes? Ha. Public school, but the separate board (ie, Catholic school, but there was no extra cost) even though we weren't Catholic (dad was, sorta). Confused yet?

I went to a public school. I liked it, I'm a huge nerd though so if there was extra or advanced class, or when the time came early college classes I was in them. such a nerd.

I attended public school in suburban Los Angeles for K-12. They used to have a good school system, and I believe I got a quality education. However, in the years since I graduated the entire system has gone downhill, to the point that I would not send my children to the high school I attended. It's sad, as I have such good memories and believe I did well there. Most people who live in my old neighborhood send their children to the Catholic or Lutheran private schools nearby.

I went to public schools which were actually very good. There weren't any good private school options for junior high and high school besides a very small (class size of 12) Baptist school.

I went to public school. As a public school teacher I am a believer in the eductaion system. Do I agree with eerything that is done? No. The district I went to is where I currently live and unfortunately the neighborhood has gone down. Mostly white trash, hate to say it. Would like to sell but not an option due to the market. Hopefully when the time comes for our little one to be in school we will have hopefully moved. I do have the option where I teach to pay tuition for my child to attend as an out of district student. The tuition cost is pretty low so we may consider if we are still living where we are now.

I went to a public school for kindergarten, then a private Catholic school for 1st through 8th grade, then a public high school. I have two daughters (age 12 & age 15) that have both gone to public schools their whole lives. If I had the money I probably would have sent them to private schools. Seattle public school district sucks.

I attended public school. My family didn't live in a great area and our public school system is a mess, however I was lucky to have some fantastic teachers along the way. Our kids will go to public school, but I hope by that time we can find a home in a better area with good schools.

I too went to public school. There were great schools in the suburb where I grew up, but i wouldn't want to send my kids there. The kids were incredibly snobby and the parents were uninvolved. I feel very fortunate to have graduated and understand that I will have to work for things rather than just get them from mommy and daddy. B grew up in the town next to me and had a very similar experience. We'd love to stay in the city and send our kids to public school in the city, but we will have to see. It will all depend on what neighborhoods have good schools at the time.

For kinder I went to private school. My mom didn't like the local school we had available at that time. From 1-12 I went to public school and I think I had pretty good teachers along the way. Plus I had the opportunity to take advance placement class and do concurrent enrollment for college.

Eddie and I have talked about what we will do once we have kids and we have agreed to send our kids to private school for elementary and public school for junior high and high school then on.

My kids will go to public schools. Thankfully, we live in the same district that DH did when growing up, so he really believes in it. I moved around a lot, and each time we moved to a new state, the school systems got worse. I don't think I really missed out, though. You essentially get out of school what you put in. Granted, you might not have as many AP opportunities or amazing clubs, but the learning is still there. Private school just seems like a waste to me unless you live in a rough city and wouldn't feel really safe about sending your kids out.

I went to public school K-12. So did hubby. We both didn't have a problem with public school at all. Made good grades, took honors courses, joined clubs, and both played sports. Our future kids will go to public school too and that's why we're avoiding bad school districts as we search for our home

E and I both went to public schools and plan to do the same for our hypothetical kids. My family moved to the town I lived in specifically because of the school system and extracurricular opportunities for kids, and I'd like to think we'll do the same if possible. My parents were both public school teachers so they had a good understanding of the system.
