MW GTG Questions

OK, so I talked to DH about it last night. Are people bringing DHs or leaving them at home? He probably won't want to come anyway, but I was just curious...if we have plans the whole time and will be doing girls-only things I will leave him at home. If we plan to just meet up for dinner, I might bring him with me and we'll make a weekend of it.

I found awesome flight rates and hotel rates (we're talking HALF of what we paid to go to Chicago in October). Is March a bad time to visit the Windy City?

PS I'm excited to meet a lot of you, so I hope this happens.

PPS I'm also pulling for the last week to hedge our bets re: weather

How much are we talking? I'm interested, but with finishing our basement I'm not sure we can swing it.

  • Ha, well, you already know my answer to this question!! Wink

I don't know what the other ladies are thinking about, but I'm envisioning some kind of mingler/cocktail hour/dinner on Friday. I'm sure the majority of us will just be getting into Chicago on this night, so it would probably be informal. Kind of a "join us when you arrive" kind of thing.

Saturday, I would think we'd do some kind of sight-seeing/shopping/etc. Some girls are more familiar with Chicago than others -- maybe we could split up into different groups as to who wanted to do what. For me, I've been to Chicago twice in my adult life. Once, to get my passport expedited so I could go to London/Paris, and the other to go out to dinner when my cousin graduated from Northwestern. My co-workers talk all the time about how much they love Chicago, so I can't wait to go!

If we split up during the day, maybe we could all get together for dinner in the evening?

  • Is this going to be kid-friendly?

ETA: I don't plan on bringing DH. But Ben's a different story.

  • I'm going to leave it up to you ladies because it is easy enough for Jeff to join in at anytime if I want him too. I may have him come down for a couple hours to bring Brynnie to show her off haha. But I was imagining it as mostly girls only but that's just 'cause I want to spend as much time getting to know all of you as I can.

Yes, do have Jeff bring Brynnie-bee! I want to meet her and kiss those squishy cheeks Smile

Brody will be with either Keith or my parents that weekend. As much as I'd love for him to meet all his aunties, I know I'd be able to enjoy myself much more if I was baby-free. Besides, I haven't had a girls weekend in well over a YEAR!

  • I agree that it will be more fun if it is girls-only.

I was thinking of just flying in early on Sat, but could probably do Fri night too.

Holly - JetBlue has good flight deals and I found hotels for like $100 a night right near the Magnificent Mile which is a fun/convenient place to stay!

  • DH probably wouldn't come with me, either. I thought I would take the train up on Saturday morning and back in the evening since it's super cheap. It looks like I'd get to Chicago around 10:00am and leave around 7:00pm if we do the last Saturday in March. So, I could do lunch and maybe a museum or shopping or something.

I'm excited for this! It will be great to get to really meet some of you!

  • I also agree that it would be more fun if its girls only. I wasn't planning on bring my DH or kids.
  • I just posted in the other thread!

AND, I can definitely come, but not with DH, he'll be in Indy that weekend  :) It's an easy peasy drive from Detroit, though we're flying in Sept when we come for our anniversary. Amanda, wanna carpool? I'm sure I can pick you up somewhere along the way!

I have connections/family at the Hard Rock Hotel (which is right on Michigan) and I will stay there. Anyone who wants to share a room with me is welcome. I can usually get the room for about $150/night or less (usually less). And it's a luxury hotel ...

  • I was thinking girls and babies only. I know brian wouldn't want to come. I would like to share a hotel room too. Doesn't really matter where. I have stayed at hotel 71 and four points by sheraton and liked those. But where ever we can find a deal, i'm there! If we will be using the el (train) there is a weekend pass I believe that is available. Good for buses too. Or we could cab it...cash cab is supposedly adding a chicago location!

This might actually be a great option. I still haven't decided if I want to drive or take the train though.....

When were you planning on heading there? I was thinking about going on Friday, leaving late afternoon-ish (like 3 or 4?)

I might actually fly ..... I don't know?? I found some decent flight deals from DTW to Midway on Delta. I'm conflicted because the cost of the flight is only a little more than what it would cost to park the car, and I don't have to battle traffic. I took Friday off work, so I can really leave anytime that day. I really hate the train (it takes 8 hours from Detroit to get to Chicago)
