So Miss Frankie was house broken in about two weeks. She goes to the door when she needs to go out... awesome, right? She is still getting up/whining at about 4:30 am (after going out at 11pm or so) and goes potty and right back to the crate. When she whines again at 7:30 (who needs an alarm clock) she has peed in her crate. I don't get it. She can go five hours, but not three? I've scrubbed the crate so it doesn't smell like urine but I just can't bring myself to have her lay in there just on the plastic so I have put in a thin hand towel, a thick bath towel and puppy pads (those she just shreds).
What the heck dog? And why does she only nap on my lap? It's super cute and everything but I have work to do and I don't need her thinking that is the only place she can catch some zzz's. Am I crazy to put a heating pad under her daytime fluffy bed? I think she just likes being really warm and cozy.
Re: Puppy questions.
Dude, I have the solution for this. We couldn't take Norm being in on the plastic at night because it annoyed us to no end to hear the nails on the plastic. But if we left a blanket or anything loose in with him, we would just pee on it and push it to the side. So for months we took the tray out at night, put a towel on it then wrapped the whole thing in an old pillowcase and put it back in the crate. Then we tucked the sides of the pillowcase under the crate so the whole thing was really tight. No scratching nails on plastic AND he couldn't push it anywhere after he peed on it. It was really high maintenance to take that thing in and out, but it worked for us.
I think part of it is just being a puppy. We adopted Norm at nine weeks and he had 3 am potty break for at least five months after that. He wasn't totally reliable out in the house on his own until about a year (so only two months ago!). It just sucks at the beginning, but they grow out of it. It'll get better.
She's adorable btw!
Because I'm an AW...
Okay, that's some gross sh!t. I thought dogs didn't like to pee where they slept? Sorry my genius solution is no help for Frankie's problem.
Devon's foul, disgusting creature of a dog does that crap too.
It's a darn good thing she is cute though otherwise...
Kidding people!
Yeah he does... and its a pain in the ass.
Maybe it is just a puppy thing. Who knows.
