Is this too late for courses & dinner?
Hi ladies!
So I'm starting to plan a joint 60th birthday party for my parents. My two younger brothers want to partake in the planning as well and I THINK I found a venue that would allow for my little brothers to feel like they can contribute a hefty amount as well as make the party really nice.
The thing is, the event has to start at 8pm according to the venue... start. So, is that too late for dinner? The package includes appetizer course, salad course, dinner {choice of chicken or steak} and then coffee, tea, desserts, as well as 4 hour open bar. So the entire party is 8-midnight. Do you think that's a lot to first serve STARTING at 8pm? It doesn't sound like a lot on paper, but time-wise is sort of does. I'd like to even make the package a few dollars cheaper and see if the venue will cut out a couple of dollars pp if we take away either the appetizer OR salad. I don't want the amount of food to look bare tho either. Thoughts?
Re: Is this too late for courses & dinner?
I agree with CCH - while it isn't late for me, I would imagine it would be late for the majority of your guests. Also, starting at 8pm would mean apps at 8pm, right? So dinner would be 8:30pm or 9pm, dessert at 9:30pm or 10pm?
Could you talk to the venue and do only appetizers, cocktails, and dessert? It would undoubtedly cut down on cost as well.

You know what's weird, the dinner package is less expensive than the cocktail package... I'm going to have to ask them about this because it just doesn't make sense to me!
haha I kept thinking about FIL because he has to eat three hours before he goes to bed b/c of heartburn.
honestly, I'd probably complain a little bit about it to DH, and he would do the same, but we would still go and have a good time.
Whaaat? Maybe they upgrade the cocktail package automatically when you only do apps (more money for them)? Or is the dinner only wine and beer? Strange.

I know!!! They do upgrade the apps A LOT. They add like a million hot/cold ones and then take away a bunch so if you want it you have to add more. It's kind of insane. The dinner includes alcohol as well. I don't really understand it. I'm going to meet with them next week and ask them to explain lol.
