Cooking Questions - crock pot
Actually, I have two different questions.
First, if you use a crock pot, and it says to set it on high for 6 hours, but you're going to be gone longer than that (like for work), does your food burn? I don't think my crockpot has a timer, but I could be wrong. If it does have a timer, does the pot just keep it warm or something? I'm so confused by this!
Second, what do you do with a pressure cooker? The only time I've heard of it referenced was for KFC (you know, like the biography program on how the chain started). I don't really understand how they work or what you do with them.
TIA!
Re: Cooking Questions - crock pot
Most crock pots switch to "warm" when the time is up. If I know I'm going to be gone for 8 hrs then I set it to 8hrs whether or not the recipe says 6hrs or not. I'm sure your crock pot has at least one time setting.
I'm not sure about pressure cookers since I've never used one, but I want to say that they're pretty similar.
The Sand in My Snow Boots
I don't have a timer on mine so my food ALWAYS burns to the side...but I know what I'm asking for for my birthday now!
As for a pressure cooker, IDK, they use them on Iron Chef a lot.
mine has a timer and switches to "keep warm" when time is up... BUT i'm a big wuss and don't use it when we'll be at work all day bc i'm afraid the house will burn down. yes, i know, this is the whole purpose of a crock pot but mine is only used on weekends.
i have no idea about the pressure cooker...
I'm the same exact way! I feel so uneasy about leaving the crockpot on while no one is home, so we normally will use it on the weekends or cook the meat the night before. As for a pressure cooker, I've never used one and have no idea what it's used for.
Eric made this in our pressure cooker:
Pot roast with potatoes and carrots. A pressure cooker uses pressure to force the contents to cook rather than traditional heat - it's a kinetic energy thing, I imagine - and it cooks everything MUCH faster. If I rememeber correctly, this took something like 45 minutes.
