So I have been reading a lot about coming off the depo shot. I have been on it for about 4 years and although we are not ttc, we want to start thinking about it in a year. I have read A LOT that it can take 3-12 months to even get your period back. Which is fine for right now, but if I stay on it, and decide in a year to ttc, it could be another year before we could get pg. Anyways, I called my doctor's today to see if I can switch to the pill. They are going to call me back and let me know the action plan. They said they could have to wait until I get my first period before they can put me ont he pill. Anyone else switch from depo?
Re: Switching from Depo?
The first time I had been on it for 6 years and it was more of a bone density concern (the longer your on it the higher chance that your bone density can be affected.) They had me start seasonique right away and it brought on my period 3 months later like it was supposed to. I hated the pill and since my periods were so heavy and painful I asked to be put back onto depo and stayed on for a little over a year. They took me off in Feb. and I didn't get my period for 2 months, so they put me onto a bc pill just to bring it on, which it did.
I just went off the pill totally b/c I'm sick of the hormones and my Dr. said it could be several months before I get a regular period due to being on depo and pills for so many years. She said she's seen it take 2 years to normal out after depo, and it really depends on your body.
I hope that helps a little.
I went off of Depo recently. My dr just had me start a pack pills when my next depo was due. I used the pills for a month and AF came at the end of the pack and then again the following month like clockwork even after stopping all hormones completley. I could just be lucky though. Like PP said it probably depends your body.
I have also heard that it could take 12+months if you are TTC, but it only took my sis 6 after going off of Depo. There aren't any guarantees!
