T&P please

We're forging ahead at seven a.m. tomorrow.  According to the Weather Channel, the storm is past Atlanta but there is a storm coming through here, Louisville, tonight.  I'm nervous, but for a few reasons we have to try and make it.  The roads are closed down towards where we are going, but H called his friend who is in Marietta, who said his father (a reliable source?) said the roads should be clear by tomorrow.

I guess the plan is to get up, get as far as we can go, and stop if/when we absolutely cannot go any farther forward.  I just don't want to be one of those people who are stuck on a snowed in highway for three days.

Our route takes us south straight through the middle of KY, through TN, swinging toward GA, then diagonally through GA until we hit Atlanta/Decatur.

So if you could spare some T&P for our traveling party tomorrow, I would really, really appreciate it.

Re: T&P please

  • I'll definitely be thinking about you guys tomorrow.  I'm sure you'll be fine, but if your gut tells you not to travel any further - don't.  Please keep us posted!

  • Ditto Nor! Safe travels, lady!
  • GL and safe travels! I haven't watched the weather yet today to see how Atlanta's roads are doing, but H plans on driving in to work at some point this morning and I can let you know how they are if you want.
  • Good Luck! Please be safe! I'll be thinking about y'all

  • We didn't make it to the apartment.  All day we tried to get ahold of the lady in the apartment complex's office and when she finally called us back she said it's on a hill, which is iced over and no one can get up it.  So there was no one in the office.  We hit huge icy delays ten minutes outside of Atlanta.  Everything was great until then, clear roads, then all of a sudden ICE.  Why is it that everywhere else we were today that had been hit managed to dig themselves out except Atlanta?

We're in a hotel in Kennesaw for the night.  H's Dad has a flight (to Mexico) scheduled for 10am which has not been cancelled yet.  So we have to leave here by 6am to try and get him to the airport by 8am for his 10am flight.  Which leaves a car stranded at the airport for I don't know how long.  Or how expensive that's going to be.  My frustration level is through the roof and I twisted my foot it the parking lot.

The news is talking about the icy roads, but it's not giving us any kind of idea for what to expect tomorrow.  They keep telling people to stay put until the end of the week.  Well, we can't afford to stay here at a hotel until the weekend, not to mention we have to get moved in because H is starting on Monday.

I'm literally praying FIL's flight gets cancelled.

Thanks for T&Ps, I know it helped.

  • What the f...?  OMG, how annoying.  Well, I'm anxious for you so you can cross "be anxious" off your list.  I hope that helps.  I just want to send some friggin salt down there!  WHAT'S SO HARD ABOUT SALTING, GEORGIA?

I'll be thinking about you today - I hope you FINALLY make it.  Please keep us posted!

OMG seriously?! I have no idea why they think that putting sand down is an appropriate measure.  It does NOTHING, aside from adds a lot of sediment into the rivers once it melts off with the snow. The south truly is stupid sometimes.

  • We're here!  We're safe!  We're exhausted.

We got in here yesterday afternoon and unloaded the U-Haul with a break in the middle.  We unloaded the truck today.  They manager of the property told us it was one flight of stairs up to our apartment... but it's really two and a half!  Ummm... I'm not moving.  Ever again.  Getting it up was hard, and I'm not ever going to take it down.

Today we went through the hassle of returning the U-Haul.  The company sent us to an Exxon gas station who hasn't taken back rentals in over a month.  We dropped it off at a different location... and it stated rolling down the hill into the street!  Oy.

But the apartment is nice and once I get unpacked and cleaned and everything in its place it will be a nice place to stay.

    Thanks for the T&P!

I'm so glad you made it and you're safe at the top of the ice hill!  Did your FIL's flight ever get canceled?  How did that whole thing work out?
