When are you done with school? What do you think will be  your  next step in your career?
My last term will end late February 2012, but I'm graduating a week before that. Since the school I'm taking class through is primarily online, they have two graduation ceremonies. One in the summer in Chicago, and the other in Miami in February. I'm eligible to walk at graduation as long as I'm enrolled in my last (capstone) class. I'm super excited to have an excuse to take a trip to Miami next winter!! My grandparents and aunt/uncle will be in Florida at the time so it'll be nice to celebrate with some extended family as well.

I'm planning on looking for a new position at Kellogg once I have my Bachelor's. I really love my job and what I do, but I will have been in this role for 5 years by this point (2 years as a "contracted" employee and 3 as a Kellogg employee) and it will be time to move on. I plan to do a lot of job shadowing and networking this year to get some feelers out there. I love the department my team is in, and thankfully it's very large (300+ employees) so I'd like to stay in this department if possible.

I didn't but that's a great idea! I'll do that sometime today.... Smile

What is your favorite part about being a mom?

There's a lot I'm loving about being a mom, but I'd have to say witnessing Brody learning new things and growing into a little boy. He's been walking for over a month now, but he just figured out how to stand up on his own without pulling himself up on something (furniture, wall, my pant leg) and to me, that's really exciting. I also love the endless love that Brody has for me. Last night he kept "running" over to me and throwing his arms around my neck. It's the sweetest thing ever.

What is 1 thing you are looking forward to in 2011?

Honestly, all of the drama of my divorce/custody being settled. I'm the type of person who hates drama and will avoid it at all costs, so I just can't wait for it to be over. I know it's a long road ahead, but I'm looking forward to getting things figured out, papers signed and moving on with my and Brody's life.

But for something fun that I'm looking forward to, I'd have to say our family reunion this summer in northern Michigan. I can't wait to take Brody to the beach for the first time. He'll be at such a fun age for it!

Where will your next vaction be?

To northern Michigan, this summer, for a family reunion. I can't wait!

    What is your dream vacation?

I'd love to rent a big RV, and take a road trip of the United States. Preferably Colorado and states to the West. I've seen a lot of the midwest/east and would really enjoy seeing the other half of the country.

What is the furthest you have been from home?

I'm not real great with geography, so I'm going to say London/Paris or various places in Italy. I have no idea which is actually farther away from home....

What is the wierdest thing you have ever eaten?

Alligator. It was fried and tasted like really chewy chicken!

What was your favorite class in college?

Honestly, I don't really have one yet that has been my favorite. I've been enjoying all of my business classes, but I'm really looking forward to taking Supply Chain/Operations Management. I work in the Transportation/Logistics area of Kellogg, so I'm really interested to learn more about how supply chain works.

Favorite recipe? (I like the idea of sharing that you started!)

My "famous" loaded potato soup. I'll post the recipe in another thread Smile A few ladies on here have tried it, and I have yet to hear a bad review!

    Favorite snack?

Cheese and crackers. In fact, I had some low-fat colby jack cheese slices on those triangle shaped Tricuits for my "dinner" last night...since I didn't eat a real dinner

What is Brody's favorite birthday or Christmas gift (or is he like someone else I know and into everything all the time?!?)

Oh man, he's into all of them (at least the ones I have out). But he's LOVING either all the trucks people got him, or My Pal Scout. He carries that doggie everywhere, loves pushing its paws so it sings to him, and he'll stand there and dance while it's singing. Too cute. He also loves to give him "kisses", which really means doing a face plant onto the dog. Kind of like how he gives me "kisses"

Me, my momma and Brody would go shopping at the Mall of America. I've never been but always wanted to go!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Getting hired into Kellogg. For someone who has spent too many years trying to finish college, I thought I'd never have an opportunity like this. I'm truly blessed to work for such a great company and I have a great boss and co-workers, so that always helps too!

Would you rather have a Monday or a Friday off work when having a long weekend?

Monday. Friday's already seem like the weekend to me, so I'd rather have the dreaded Monday off work!

What is your biggest driving related pet peeve?

I have two. People not using turn signals, or people who can't drive a consistant speed on the highway/interstate. Seriously, if you're in the passing lane, don't speed up to 80 then down to 65 and back up again!

    Favorite cocktail?

Cosmo or a really good dirty martini. I'm definitely a beer or wine girl too!

What color is your winter coat?

I have a black winter pea coat that I love, love, love! I also have a Columbia that is White and purple

How much snow do you have right now?

I'd say 4"-5" total. We're supposed to get another inch or two today

Where do you see yourself professionally in 5 years? 10 years?

At Kellogg (both in 5 and 10 years). I seriously am SO grateful to work for such an amazing company, and I look forward to moving around (and up!) in the company. My 5 year goal is to be a "level 3" (I'm a 2 right now) and my 10 year goal would be to either be a Level 3 w/ direct reports or a Level 4 (no direct report). Those aren't vague at all, are they?! Wink

What is your ideal way to relax?

On the couch, with a glass of wine and either my laptop or a good movie on TV. In the summer I like to sit outside on my patio set with a big glass of wine and just listen to the sounds of the night

Is there a particular age you look forward to most with Brody?

In all honestly, all of them. I can't wait to see the little boy and then man that he becomes. However, I'm really looking foward to him being able to talk and communicate with me.

How are things with your neighbor these days (I believe it was you that had some issues with them and you put up a fence)?

Hahaha, yes, our lovely neighbor. All I can say is God Bless our fence!!! We haven't had a single incident with them since, and I don't even really see them all that often. It's a beautiful thing Smile

  •

    Name? Amanda

Birthdate? And age? November 23.....I'm 27!

    Favorite Food? Comfort foods...mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, etc. I'm a carb-a-holic!

    Favorite Color? Purple

Favorite thing about yourself? This is a tough one....

Least favorite thing about yourself? I don't stand up for myself like I should

Favorite Season and why? Fall. I love the weather when it's not so hot, and I just love everything about fall. Football, cider, donuts, pumpkins, leaves, etc.

What are you most looking forward to in 2011? I answered this in Alicia's question, but it's having my divorce/custody issues settled and over with. I can't wait for the drama to be done and the ink to be dry on the papers so I can move on with my life.

What do you think it is about the ladies on this board that make us all keep coming back? We were drawn together by a huge event in our lives -- but since then, we've gotten to really know each other and we geniunely care about everyone. A lot of us have met IRL (and some get to in March!!!), and I think that helps strengthen the friendships as well. I'm excited to see where life takes all of us as we continue living our lives!

    For you:

What is your favorite age Brody has been so far? I'd say right now, because he's so active and curious, but I know that every stage that he's currently in will be my "favorite".

Do you miss the newborn stage? Yes and no. I miss him being itty-bitty and getting all my snuggles in, but I also really appreciate that he's becoming more indpendent. I'm still able to get snuggles in once in a while :)

What are you most looking forward to for the GTG?  Meeting everyone!!!

Is there something specific in Chicago you want to do? Not really -- I like Sarah's plan for a dinner/mixer thing, but other than that, I'm really open to anything.

Will Kellogs be sending you to Minooka anytime soon? No, I don't think so Sad Unless I get into a role where I deal more with our distribution centers, I doubt I'll be back to Minooka anytime soon.

    More questions:

Have you lived in Michigan all your life?

As long as I can remember, yes. I was born in Indiana where I lived until I was 2 years old. When my mom and my bio-dad got divorced, we moved to my grandparents house in Flint, MI. Once her and my now-dad got married, we moved to Battle Creek, MI and I've lived here (and the surrounding areas) my whole life.

How do you like being an only child? Did you wish you had a brother and/or sister to hang out with? Growing up I liked it because I have privileges I knew I wouldn't if I had siblings. Granted, I wasn't super-spoiled by any means (didn't have a brand new car, helped pay for my horse and all of her expenses, etc.) but I know that I wouldn't of had some opportunities if there was another sibling in the mix. Now that I'm older, I really really really wish I had a sibling, especially a sister, that I could be close with. I've lost a lot of friends and others have drifted away and it makes me sad. I know that family would always be there (hopefully).

Valentine's Day-yay or nay? Well this year it's a big NAY from me..hehe. But to be honest, I've never really gotten into it as an adult. As a teenager, I always made sure my boyfriends KNEW they had to do something extra special for me Smile

If you had a $1,000 what would you do with it and why?

Pay back some of my medical bills from when I had Brody....because I'm obviously behind on those Embarrassed But, if I HAD to use it for something fun, I'd put it towards re-decorating my house. Change up some paint colors, new tables for the living room, and possibly replace the loveseat with a chair/table instead.

What are you getting your Bachelor's Degree in?

Business Administration w/ an emphasis in Management

I'm doing ok -- I've done 3 workouts in the last week, so I consider that to be successful! It's not so bad once I get into a groove, it's just getting changed into my workout clothes and getting on the treadmill that I'm struggling with!

However, this is easily the most that I've ran in the last year...seriously...so I consider that a vast improvement!

I'm not a big cereal eater, so I'm going to have to go with a Sunshine product (which Kellogg's owns)....Cheez-Its!! I love the reduced fat kind, white chedder, and the party mix. Yum!

What kind of plans to do you have when you are Miami for graduation? Is the whole family going?

It'll probably just be a long weekend type of thing. My grandparents live down there in the winter, and my aunt & uncle have a huge house in Bonita Springs. I imagine we'll visit with them over the weekend. My parents and Brody will be coming to the ceremony, but I don't get enough tickets for everyone else to come too.

Re-runs: Friends (I know I know, I DVR them even though I have all the seasons on DVD!)

I think I remember you saying that you were volunteering at a farm that does handicapped riding, right?  Are you still doing it?  How do you like it? (I just started doing that this week...I'm riding their horses though...not leading/walking)
I actually only have done it once, and it was for our "Days of Caring" through work. I LOVED it though -- I was able to help bring in some horses, groom them and get them tacked up for lessons, as well as turn out other horses for the night. We were able to watch a lesson and it was truly something special to see. The young man (probably 12-14) was so somber looking in his wheelchair, and as soon as he was on that horse he was lit up light a Christmas tree. It gave me goosebumps!!

I fully plan on volunteering more in the warmer months and once I get a schedule worked out with Brody.
One of the volunteer programs is for someone to exercise the horses, since most of them are just walked for their lessons. I'd love to be able to do that! Smile
