WW08D

Kiley is getting baptized in Feb. We were thinking about after wards going out to brunch with our families, but it could get quite expensive considering I have a huge family. So instead we decided to do something at my Mom's house which is about 5 minutes from the church. So my question is, Chris suggested we do some bake ziti trays/lasagna/salad/bread. Church will probably be over around 11-11:30, so would you want a lunch at the time or you would you want more breakfast items?

Re: WW08D

  • I think the Chris's suggestions are fine.  I would probably have a quiche or 2 and some muffins/breads (banana, date, etc) as well.  That way people have the choice of what they want to eat.

  • Lunch food wouldn't bother me, but I might be tempted to make a couple quiches and/or a lighter salad like black bean and corn or pasta salad.

  • lunch is great!

  • I think his suggestion is fine too, but that is coming from someone who eats her lunch at around 11am every day.

You could also go the route of fixing ham biscuits, fruit tray, quiche muffins, etc...like the others said.  I think both are fine, it's just whatever is easier for you!

  • I think lunch is fine. Church is over 11-11:30, then people mill around, then they go to your mom's, then they mill around ... you probably wouldn't be serving it until noon anyway. And, ditto pp -- do what's easiest for you!

This! I eat at 11:30 so I think lunch food is fine.

  • I think lunch is fine. If you did ziti or lasagna you could make ahead and freeze over the next few weeks to make it easier as the baptism gets closer.

I really like this idea, like have the muffins/breads out first for a teeny bit then serve the food.

I would probably do Lunch.  The baptism we went to in Sept started at 1, and was fairly quick since it was just the baptism and not during mass, over by 1:30 or so.  However, afterwards people def. milled around for a while so the family could do pictures.  We probably didnt get back to the parents house for food until about 2:30 at least.  So I def. think by the time you get back there lunch food would be fine.

Or as shelly said have a couple breakfasty breads/quiche and have those as options for people who are not quite ready for lunch.

  • I like Shelley's suggestion as well. I'm usually over breakfast food and thining about lucnh no later than 11, so ziti and lasagna sound great to me!

  • I think lunch is perfectly fine at 11:30.

  • To me that's lunch time!  It will take a bit to warm up the food and get things ready, right?  Plus are you going to do pictures at the church after?  It could be close to noon before you're all eating.  Our service got done around 11:30, but by the time we chatted with the congregation members after and got some pictures with the font it was definitely after noon time before we all got back to the house.  We had Mexican and buffalo chicken dip for appetizers while I warmed up the ziti and garlic bread and everyone was happy with that.
