snowpocalypse! and choc chip cookies

who has a snow  day?

I am home, baking some  lemon-coconut bundt cake.

I  also want to make some chocolate chip cookies...

who has the best  chocolate chip cookie recipe? I always just use the Nestle Tollhouse recipe, but I am wondering if there's something better out there...

Re: snowpocalypse! and choc chip cookies

  • I use the chewy recipe by Alton Brown, it's a variation of the toll house recipe, they come out nice and chewy in the middle and a little crisp on the outside, you should have no trouble finding on the food network website.  I skip the bread flour in the recipe though.

I'm at work, us Mainers are told to suck it up and show up. Stick out tongue

I'm working from home today - we have probably 8 inches of snow already and it's coming down like crazy.

  • I'm jealous. We only got a few inches last night. I want to be snowed in :(

My favorite choco chip cookie recipe is in my blog- it actually has some oatmeal in it, but they are more choco chip cookie than oatmeal cookie. It is near the beginning of my blog. I think in a post called "Brian Baked" or something like that.

  • Claire, I have a delicious recipe but the dough needs to rest for at least 36 hours in the fridge/ freezer. Blah!

And I'm at work Smile Snow and all.

  • Not me. We got the snow yesterday. I have 1ft drifts to shovel when I got home from work yesterday, but the roads weren't really bad. We only got about 3in in my part of town. 30 minutes west of us got 6in, but I still don't think that is a lot. The county schools (i.e. rural) are closed today. I think because it is supposed to get windy and there will be blowing and drifting. Otherwise it is just really cold with the winds.

  • I have the day off and DH is working from home.  I think the last I heard our company was opening at 10am, but not sure if they changed that.  It's still snowing pretty bad and we have close to 2 feet on the ground with lots of drifting, but a lot of people work from home, so I doubt we'd officially close.

My brother used to make hundres of cookies every year as fundraisers and he always used the Tollhouse recipe on the bag.  He always sold out his cookies each year and people placed orders in advance.  I think his trick was using butter flavored Crisco in place of the butter.

  • My university is closed so I'm at home. Even if they hadn't closed I would have stayed home because I have a long drive. When I looked outside at 7am it didn't even look like our road was plowed; but everything was so white it was hard to tell.

We have about a foot right now. It comes up to the top of the intake on our snow blower, which we just bought yesterday for today. The news stations say my town is part of the "sweet spot" and they are projecting ~15-20" of snow.

ETA: DH just came in and said our snow plow is 16" tall, so we have about 16", and it's still coming down.

  • not here and I am jealous :)

I love the Tollhouse recipe. I add a little more brown sugar though.

  • I am jealous...no snow here in CA. Actually, it is quite warm and we are expecting some rain. Boo since DH's bday is tomorrow.

  • We've got plenty of snow here, but no snow day! I just got home from working at the barn. It's so pretty out, but I'm glad to be inside now.

My favorite Chocolate Chip cookie recipe is one that I found and made for Christmas. EVERYONE loved them...I made some with and some without walnuts (because I don't like them). Anyways, all of these cookies were eaten up quick, so I'm going to make some more probably next week. :)

  • We got about 4in of snow yesterday, and today we've got a -39 windchill......brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I'm still at work though! Not much stops us Saskatchewan folk!
