I don't know what it's like in ME, but the snow is deep and HEAVY here, and still coming down. I can't believe MH has to go to work -- he just left and he's walking. Usually it takes about 30 minutes to walk there (at a brisk pace); I'm guessing it will take him an hour or so minimum. Seems so stupid...what's so vital about post-production that they have to be open today???
My only fear is that we'll lose power and/or cable. The fire department has already been down my street once to clear a wire that was drooping low across the street. If I lose cable, I lose internet -- and hence, my mind. I have a serious addiction.
I think Owen and I may make cookies this afternoon.
Re: who is home today?
I'm home with a nasty migraine sitting in my living room with the lights off and my sunglasses on...I know if i turned off the TV and comptuer it would probably go away but um that would be just boring!
I think Josh and I are going to make cookies later and then when he finally decides to nap I am going to try and shovel...
I'm home.
Even if I wasn't a SAHM, I'd be home today because DD is still sick. She threw up a glass of milk (her breakfast) on the living room carpet a few minutes ago. Good times.
I didn't even go outside to check for my newspaper today. All I could see in the driveway was a sea of smooth white -- no paper-looking lumps. Either the paper didn't come or it was buried so deep that I didn't see it and DH will hit it with the snowblower tonight.
DH was given the go-ahead by his boss to leave after he works his normal 8 hours (instead of staying all 13 today) but he's going to wait and see what the snow looks like. If it's still coming down hard there's no point in leaving early and sitting in traffic all afternoon.
I'm so sorry you have a migraine! I hope it goes away quickly so that you can enjoy your day with Josh!
I trekked in to work... it was pretty crappy on the roads but I don't mind driving in the snow. My boss and a coworker just showed up... over 2 hrs late. I was surprisingly on time! Perhaps that's because no one was on the roads.
I'm home.
I was suprised our office was closed completely and we weren't asked to work from home (most of my work is available online), even though it was only posted at 8:00. Hello... I leave for work at 8:15 on a regular day so 15 minutes notice meant I was already wide awake. I am now back in my pjs and watching the Nate Berkus Show. DH just told me he is getting out at 12:00 after it took him 1 1/2 hours to get there and still has to work when he gets home, but that's better than nothing. Yay for an almost snow day!!
Wow, I'm surprised! Did you guys not get much snow?
ME! So very happy about it.
I'm planning to go out and shovel my little heart out this afternoon since I don't want to drive in to my gym in this mess. I've been at the gym ALMOST every day since I joined and am starting to get addicted. YAY! If shoveling doesn't completely kill me, I'll spend time on my bike trainer or just doing something on the Wii.
When not burning off calories, I have some business stuff to attend to and a house to clean. DH is out of town still, so I have to keep myself motivated all on my own.
Me too! It didn't start snowing in Augusta until 8-now it looks terrible out. I will be stuck here anyway though because DH and I drive in together(we work about 2 minutes away from each other) and he, even if allowed, never goes home early.
Last snow storm it wasn't until 2pm that work said we could leave-I am sure they won't even offer it today.
I'm "working" from home. Even though DH is here to handle James, I still can't find the motivation to do anything I'm supposed to. I have work. It could easily be knocked out from here on the couch. But I'd rather screw around while sitting in my yoga pants and sweatshirt. I just too a shower (it's 11) and I'm now back online on the Nest and Facebook and other stupid things.
I can't believe Nathaniel had to go in either! Ditto to kclouts! I don't know how much we've gotten so far here in Portland proper, but it's a lot and it's come down REALLY fast. I got up to pee at 5:20 and I saw no signs of any snow. My black car looked completely black in the driveway and I saw nothing coming down. When my alarm went off at 7:30, there was a coating and lots of blowing. We probably have 5-6".
I am LOVING all the snow, but am a little bummed it had to come on the day of my first troupe bellydance rehearsal, causing it to be cancelled. I was really excited to start dancing tonight. Oh well... next week.
Everyone stay safe and warm out there.
I am home, snow day at school.
I am doing laundry and will make the chicken pot pie.
I am also checking out the syllabus for the online class I am taking this spring as the first step in getting my 282 SPED endorsement!
Erika, don't feel bad. I brought my laptop home from work yesterday in anticipation of the snow, and I haven't touched it. I also haven't showered (waiting for the dishwasher to stop running), nor have I gone up to the attic to get the ornament/storage boxes so that I can put away all of the Christmas decorations that are just piled up on my diningroom furniture. Instead I've been playing with Owen and farting around online while he eats a snack and watches "Charlie Brown Christmas" for the umpteenth time. (I really was going to delete it from the Tivo, but he keeps asking to watch "Ice Skating"!)
Soon I'll shower and hopefully that will motivate me....
Oh heavens, I don't feel bad. I'm aware I'm a slacker, but I don't particularly care. I am at least online and ready to do important tasks once the emails I need come through. I can probably get enough energy now that James is down for a nap to send a couple of emails I need to get done.
I did go out and shovel the front walkway (which my shoulders & neck will probably regret in about 2 hours since I didn't stretch) because I feel bad for the mailman and I think he's coming by soon. I update my snowfall total to closer to 7-8" as it was up past my boots and level to or higher than the stairs.
I am home. My work hasn't closed yet, but from what I hear they will probably close around 1. I took the day off. No way was I driving in this crap.
So I will snuggle with the boys all day and watch some Netflix.
Is it because Bates is a residential college and the administration assumes all the students are on campus and most faculty/staff live closeby? I know my alma mater was like that until a snow storm in 2001.
Obviously, I'm at work. We got an inch last night. Although I arrived to find out our Atlanta and Boston offices get a day off and our Seattle office opens two hours late. Apparently I'm in the wrong city today. ;-)
I'm home... and still in shock over it.
The Court canceled all of today's hearings yesterday in anticipation of the storm, but still intended to be open regardless. Since I work for the prosecution office within the Courthouse, we were operating under the assumption that if the Court closed, we'd close. I would have been ok with working today, I need a day of no interruptions to catch up...
DH got the call from the school at 4:30 this morning, and I was awake hoping for my call too... I finally saw the Court's closing on TV after I already should have been up and getting ready, but my office's phone tree call didn't come to confirm it until around the time I'd planned on leaving for work.
I'm grateful either way. DH and I needed a day together to get stuff done, and it was nice to snuggle with him like it were a weekend. Now, I'll be using the time to clean, clean and clean some more - it's long overdue. I'm actually glad for the extra time to get all these boring chores done.
My Wedding Bio! Not updated in a LONG time!
I went in for some OT at 6 am, and it wasnt snowing. By 8 it was coming down nicely. SS and Cardiovascular Consultants both have offices in my building. Last storm, I was the last one there so this time we used them as a guideline. If they closed, I closed.
The big house (our main office) in South Portland closed at 2 and I luckily have lunch at 1. So, I left at 1. DH still wanted me to go to Best Buy and pick up some lunch and I had to get Taylor from DCP.
All the while DH has been home all day because he got the call from his work when he was on his way DCP to drop off Taylor. Oh well, he had a good day and now I'm ready for a nap
This exactly. They did end up closing at noon. We usually would have had the day off, but the snow didn't start here until 8am and then it was slow for about an hour before it really started dumping.
