Anybody use Redfin to buy a home?

Just curious.  I've toured 4 houses with them but haven't found the perfect place yet.

  • Redfin doesn't work with short sales (which was a large majority of the homes we were looking at) so we ended up using ziprealty.com instead.

  • From what I have heard about them - they seem very limited as to what houses they have available to show you.

Kind of a limited real estate company.

But I don't know that much about them

  • Erin,

You will want to hire a buyer agent in your area.  I am an agent in NH.  I have plenty of contacts out there that can assist.  Give me a call if you want at 603.305.7006 and we can chat.

  • I bought my house through Redfin in 2008 and had a great experience. I would (and will) absolutely do it again.

I didn't find that they had a more limited group of houses to show us--we chose the ones we wanted to see and they unlocked the doors. I have no idea what a "full" service agent could have provided us that would have been worth the $9000 rebate check that we got!

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • We did and were happy with the experience.  We saw a few dozen with the agent and many more a open houses (over 100 - it was a tricky time in the market and we had high expectations and less money than most in our market. It took time to find the right fit).

We chose Redfin in part because we got better service from them than most of the competitors we talked to.  They didn't try to steer us towards their own listings or pressure us to buy something after we'd only seen a few houses. They were diligent about including the terms I requested in each offer and negotiated well on our behalf.  I felt like it helped that the agent herself wasn't getting a specific percentage so she didn't have any incentive to keep the price 10K higher.

And the rebate check also helped. It allowed us to put down the full 20% without decimating our savings.
