You had mentioned in the Fit Chickes post that you wanted to know more about P90X....
MH and I started it last summer and did pretty well. We had not worked out in a LONG time before that. They say you should already be in very good shape (which we were NOT), but we just did things at our own pace and some of the exercises, we had to do modified versions of. There is a fitness test at the beginning that they encourage you to take before starting the prgram, which we both passed. We stopped working out around November because we just got busy and got out of the routine of working out every night. We're just getting back into it now.
I really like it! I hate the gym so that's not an option for me. I have tried other DVD's in the past and usually get bored. With P90X I don't really get bored. There are 6 different workouts that you do for the first few weeks. Then there is an alternate routine you do for a week (that brings in a couple of new DVD's) and then you repeat the cycle. So it really helps that things are constantly changing. The hardest thing about P90X for me and DH is the time it takes. It's a 6 day a week workout. 3 days a week the workout is 1hr 15min, 2 days it's 50 min and 1 day it's 1hr 30min. We're not always good about doing the 6 days a week because life gets in the way, but we try our best. ![]()
As far as the cost...I stalked Craigslist for a few weeks and finally found a brand new still wrapped in the package P90X set (apparently a man who was disabled with limited use of his legs received it for a Christmas gift...thoughtful, eh?). He sold it to me for $80! Still pricey, but a lot cheaper than new. Even if I paid full price, I would not regret it. it's a great workout! In addition to the DVD's you'll also need a yoga mat, regular mat if you don't have carpeting (for push ups and whatnot), bands (with a door attachment) or pull up bar. We have both since I can't do pull ups, but dh can. You'll also need some hand weights.
Hope this all helps. If you need more info, let me know! ![]()
Re: **Lauram730**
Thank you so much for the info! I had stalked Craigslist for a while looking for a deal, but eventually gave up. I can't believe that poor man was given it as a gift!
This would be the right time of year for me to start it since I have so many less hours at work and it seems pretty time consuming, compared to how much effort I've put into working out in the past.
My thought is to concentrate on my usual workouts for the next few months and save up for a Craigslist copy I can start once the high season at work ends again in the late fall. Hopefully I'll be in better shape by then.
Keep up the great work on your end!
