bedroom into a closet

Any tips/suggestions for turning a spare bedroom into a closet?

Re: bedroom into a closet

  • Can you get stuff from the Container Store? Closet rods, etc.

  • Oh lucky you! I would check out California Closets. If you are going to do it, go all the way!

  • My aunt uses those hanging clothes racks that mall stores uses in the stockroom. Just some bent metal about 6 ft long that comes up about head-high and rolls on four wheels at the bottom. You can put them around the walls or in rows with aisles. That and some shelves/bookcases should take care of most of your storage issues.

  • I saw this wall shelving that is screwed into the wall in the latest nest magazine (p. 67), that looked like something I could do myself... but I wasn't sure where to get something like that???
  • I wouldn't do anything that couldn't be easily removed.

Your next buyer might want that bedroom and not have to deal with your closet things, unless you have like 5 bedrooms.

  • We did this.  We used the basic white laminate shelving/drawer units you can find just about anywhere (several different brands make these but all basically the same, I know you can get them at Target, Home Depot, Walmart).  Pieces range from $8-25.  We stacked units 2 high and then attached closet rods in between units and between units and the wall.  This makes it pretty easy to disassemble (we already did this once last time we moved) - only have 6 screws into wall, so pretty easy to putty over you'd never know it was there.  We probably spent about $200 total, maybe slightly less.
