Re: WDYT of this commercial?
Soooo, I've heard that even if they stop believing and following the teachings of the church, Catholics are always kind of "Catholic."
That said, I was raised Catholic and no longer practice. This doesn't offend me personally at all, but I do think it is in extremely poor taste. To practicing Catholics, the wine and communion wafer TRULY ARE the blood and body of Christ. I think this is akin to desecrecating a cross or other sacred religious symbol.
Edited to fix atrocious grammar and spelling.
I think it's kind of strange how most articles talk about Catholics being offended, when many Christian denominations practice communion, not just Catholics...
Anywho, I don't find it offensive at all...I think it's kind of funny. Now, if a church was actually doing this? I would give a huge side-eye to them.

As far as I know, Catholic is the only Christian religion that believe in transubstantiation, which is that the wafer and wine don't just represent the body and blood, they BECOME/ARE the body and blood. That's why Catholics are more offended.
Hmmm, interesting, I didn't know that! Well now it makes more sense why it is so offensive to Catholics.
Although it's strange that Pepsi/Dorito didn't think about how the commercial might upset some people, I'm glad they decided to remove it.

I bet they did think about it. Controversy gets people to talk about the product even without seeing the ad, when a mediocre but non-potentially offensive ad would have been forgotten in a day. It seems we hear about a company wanting to play a "controversial" Super Bowl ad every year now, then they have to pull it before it can air. Free publicity for them!
Yep, this. I agree with BoyMom that it's a pretty lame commercial.
