I've never been to Saratoga, and we are in a wedding there in July. Any suggestions?
For example, is it going to be swamped with track season, a Friday afternoon in Saratoga? Will hotels be expensive/booked up? (Hotel only because we are bringing the 2 kids, I may want somewhere for them to nap. DH is doing photography so I may need to "set up camp" at the hotel). It is a small wedding party and we will be eating at Forno Bistro after the ceremony. Anything I should know, see, plan on? Thanks.
Re: Saratoga in July
Is it early July? If so, it'll be before track season. I believe the track opens the end of July.
Hotels are more expensive during the track season but they shouldn't be too bad before it. I'm sure the gals that live there will have more info than I can give.
Generally Saratoga is very busy all summer, but yes, it gets even busier during track season. Friday afternoons will be crowded downtown, especially after the track lets out. Traffic will be a nightmare at that time, so avoid it if you can.
Track season starts July 22nd, and if the wedding takes place on or after that time it will be expensive (probably at least mid-200s) and will book very fast. You probably won't have an issue if it's before opening weekend.
If you're only there for an afternoon I would stick to the downtown area. Lots to see just walking around. Your kids will probably love Congress Park. And Forno Bistro is yummy
We live in downtown Saratoga and yes, it will be a bit crazy in July. Even though track season isn't until the 2nd or 3rd week, its nuts all summer long because its just a tourist destination in general.
I would book a hotel as soon as you can to ensure you are able to get a room. Our friends and relatives usually stay at the hilton garden in on Broadway (right near the park) http://hiltongardeninn.hilton.com/en/gi/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=GYVEGKQ22U0PQCSGBJC4LYQ?ctyhocn=ALBSSGI
Forno is soooo good - so you will enjoy that! There are also hotels further north, almost near exit 15 if you want to be a few miles away from the crowds.
