Your favorite kitchen gadget

Whats yours?? Other than your mixer :-)

The reason I ask is because tonight I was making soda water with my Sodastream and got to thinking that I love that thing more than I love my kitchenaid mixer.

I love it because it means no more carting bottles of soda water from the grocery store, no more empty bottles everywhere, and most of all I save a ton of money.

Re: Your favorite kitchen gadget

  • What the devil are you using all that soda water for? :P

Other than my kitchen aide.... hm.  I'd have to say the mini food processor.  It's o.l.d. but works great.   I just threw together a mac n cheese soup yesterday, and put a couple carrots, celery, and garlic  in it, a few pulses, and no chopping.  I also use it to mix dressings.

Though not a gadget,  I also love our counter top composter.

We're also washing and saving all our plastics to bring them to southern Maine (Bangor only does type2 plastics, Ross's parents can recycle them all).  It's a royal pain, and composting can be a little "icky," but we put out so much less garbage now.

  • Its a toss up for me! I have two,

first one being my Rabbit wine bottle opener it the best thing I've seen! And it makes it super easy for me to pop open a bottle of wine on my own! (had a hard time with the old-fashion kind)

Second would be my coffee bean grinder LOVE having Fresh Coffee every morning!

  • Nick and I really like our wine bottle vacuum sealer that sucks the air out and saves the wine from spoiling. Not that its often that we don't kill the bottle:)

  • We really love our mini deep fryer.  Yeah yeah, I know deep fried stuff is horrible for you, but it makes the best french fries and onion rings ever.

  • I have to be boring and say my stand mixer.  I actually got it about 2 years before the wedding, both of my sisters got married that year and I think my mom felt bad for me so she bought it for me for Christmas.  I bake a lot (my chocolate chip cookies are often begged for) so I get a lot of use out of it.

And not really a gadget, but we got a wok with one of our wedding gift cards and I used it for the first time the other night.  It was amazing!

  • The only thing I really use that's a "gadget" in the kitchen is my Kitchenaid, so I guess I'll have to be boring and say that.

I've had it for YEARS now (like, probably 8 or 9) and I can't imagine life without it.

Oh wait, does my trashcan count as a gadget because I flipping am willing to divorce Keith and marry it and have its babies (kidding kidding!) but seriously, it's my favorite non-mammal thing ever made.  :-)

Do you share the recipe for these chocolate chip cookies you speak of???

I've been trying to bake good chocolate chip cookies for years, and the last batch I made were the best so far, but only when they were first baked.  The next day they were just mediocre.

  • I love our new keurig...we had the original version and it was loud and not many settings.  We upgraded to the premium and love it.   Also I am in love with my crockpot...just need more recipes that I will eat.  I love the digital timer and warming setting

I use the Nestle Toll House recipe from the back of the bag, but I add 1/4-1/2 extra cup of flour and 1 cup of milk chocolate chips (in addition to the semi-sweet chips).  I follow the rest of the recipe (I only use butter not margarine). Baking time varies by the oven, anywhere from 8-13 minutes, just watch them.  They stay soft even days after and freeze really well.  They don't always turn out perfect, but they always taste amazing!

  • I also love our rabbit wine opener.  I doubted it's awesomeness for the price but put it on our registry anyways and it's great.  We just got a vaccuum wine sealer for Christmas and have yet to use it, but I'm sure we'll like that too.

Otherwise I don't really have any gadgets I love, but like Tisha, I love our trash can (but also even more our pots/pans and knife set)

  • I love my magic bullet! I use it a lot. I make chicken salad with it, and milk shakes. I also use it to make a butter. seasoning,  garlic and onion mixture I slather on the skin of a whole chicken or turkey before I bake it.

  • I had a Pampered Chef bridal shower so for me to try to name one thing would be nearly impossible!!

I love my crockpot, since our kitchen is out of commission right now I have been using it every night. When my kitchen is done I can't wait to set up my new Keurig!!

  • When I first read this my thought was the low tech Pampered Chef Mix and Chop...I love that thing (I'm a consultant and rave about it at every show and usually sell a couple) but since everyone else is going with electronics I would say it is a toss up between my crock pot and DH's George Foreman-it's the bigger one with removable grills.  Although lately the waffle iron is getting more use than George

One of those was thrown for me for my first marriage, so we're talking.... 10 years ago (Jesus I'm old).  My favourite Pampered Chef item remains, to this day, hands down my Quick Stir Pitcher.  Though I do like my pizza stone.
