Re: MM thread...
Neat!
Can I just share that it makes me squinch up my face all ugly when I see someone type Walla! instead of Voila! Mostly because there is a blog I read where she was commenting on stuff like this and it took me a good 20 minutes to figure out that Walla is voila.

Nice! Thanks for sharing!
LTB - I totally agree with you. There are a lot of girls on other boards that use "walla" and it took me a while to figure out what they meant. Now I cringe when I read it.
I would like to add, I also hate when people are like, "MM lurker here... I just wanted to say blah, blah, blah" Just come in and state your effing opinion. Do you really need to tell everyone you're a lurker? Does it add anything to your post? If people have never seen you post before, I think they'll already know you're a lurker... /crazy rant
Maybe its just a board joke or something. I hope.
I don't get the lurker thing either. There are a ton of posts like that on E. Most of the people there have been there forever, we'll recognize that you aren't a regular poster. Or ya know, just look at your post count. I just read a post this morning where the poster said something like "This is my first post EVER.." and the cranky grandma in me wanted to respond with an arrow pointing at her post count and say "Like really? EVER?!"

this made me giggle out loud
you're SO right, but sadly i'm guilty of stating "newbie" in a post, but not "lurker"
I didn't go to the link, but I have to remark, "holy f balls!!!"
Walla = Viola? Dear god, there are some dummies out there.
I hate when people mix up then and than or spell retarded "retarted". Although, the "retarted" thing makes me giggle cause it's calling the kettle black. hahaha

Definitely less creepy, though - 'lurker' just reminds me too much of 'stalker.' Especially if you have never posted before and you come in like you know people? Cyber-stalking at it's finest.
I can't tell you the number of times I said "wall-uh" in my head trying to figure out what it was supposed to be. One of my other pet peeves is rediculous. It makes me think of Harry Potter and the riddikulus spell.

The Princess of Anything is Coming!
Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
The 'walla' thing irks me. Some people really do think that's how it's spelled, and other people use it ironically. Which I feel just makes it worse.
As for the lurker thing...I don't know, I say it sometimes on boards where I don't post frequently. Usually I don't use the term 'lurk', but I will add a disclaimer saying "I don't usually post here but..." sometimes. Because I've gotten people saying crap like, "Who the eff are you?". Usually new people who think they're the shiit for calling out someone that they think is newer than they are.
Also, the first time I saw someone use 'walla' was on a cooking message board, and she said something like "I had halibut, and I added garlic, and onions, and walla!" I was really confused and thought it was a food, and that maybe she meant Walla Walla onions, which are a thing in WA. So I said, "What is walla?" and a bunch of people thought I was being snarky for pointing out her spelling mistake.
I was thinking that this morning as well. I would assume that the organization selling them has promised "x" amount of money per bracelet sold, and regardless of whether they're giving them away for free or not, they'll still pay that "x" per bracelet they send out.
