Question regarding Mexico
I'm trying to get DH on board w/ an AI in Mexico, preferably @ one of the Excellence Resorts.
Given all the negative news that Mexico has received lately, would you go?

I can't really comment in terms of the violence, but as far as I know (like PP said), it's mostly in the border towns and not so much the resort areas.
However, I can comment on how amazing, fabulous, wonderful, and awesome the Excellence Cancun/Rivera Maya is. That's where we went for our honeymoon. It's great because it's an adults-only resort, so it's very quiet and peaceful. They have ammmmaaaaazing restaurants (you MUST eat at Agave and get a margarita...or two...or six). We actually wish that we had done less excursions and spent more time at the hotel, because they have lots of daily activities right on site.
I think the mayor of Cancun was murdered last year and there's been sporadic issues, but I would still go. We went in June and did a long excursion and never felt unsafe.
If you don't go to an Excellence Resort, the Palace Resorts are all really good too.
My cousin just got back from Cancun. They went the week before Christmas. They stayed at an Excellence resort (I think), but I know they had no issues with violence and felt safe the whole time.
I went to Cozumel years ago, and disliked it. It was scary then. Beautiful, but scary.

I went to Mexico 3 times over the past 3 years. I went despite rumors about poisoned water, right in the middle of the swine flu epidemic, and I went to Cancun during talks of drug busts and murders galore.
Trust me, you're fine. If you stay in an AI, you're even more fine. Don't believe the hype. The Riviera Maya/Cancun area is safe, fun, beautiful and the locals are welcoming and care about the tourists. I highly recommend it.
