  • I was 14 and it was the summer between 8th and 9th grades.  I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me b/c I was the only person I knew who hadn't started.  It was also a really mortifying experience the way it happened.  One of those awful stories that my family thinks is funny but that I don't think I'll ever be able to 100 percent recover from my 14-year-old self's mortification over.  I hope DD's experience in much better than mine was!
  • I was 11 and I was extremely happy to get it because all my friends already had theirs so I wanted to be a member of the "club", lol. I didn't mind getting it at all that first time, which I guess is an unusual way to feel!

It wasn't an enjoyable experience for me either.  Ugh.  I remember being horrified when I figured out what was going on.  And for some strange reason I didn't want to tell my mom, so I used rolled up toilet paper.  Finally on day 2 I broke down and told my mom.  And she took me Eckerds to buy some pads and tampons.

But toilet paper?  Yeah, that really didn't work out to well for me :

Me too.  I was in 6th grade.

The school nurse was my friend's mom.  She let me go home for the day.

  • 11. I realized during lunch break.  I was so upset I failed a test that afternoon.

The most embarassing thing was when my dad came home and said "your mom told me the news, congratulations on becoming a woman"  I was mortified to be having the discussion with my father.

I was the same way.  I really think late blooming and being petite must be related somehow.

Haha.  I begged my mom not to tell my dad when I started my period.  Really, I have no idea why I was so adamant about that.  I guess that age was awkward enough that I wanted to eliminate any potential for an uncomfortable conversation with my dad.

ditto! I was 15, and it was my first day of high school. I also had no boobs and was a peanut. Then again, I stayed short and only got boobs when I went on the pill.....

  • I as 13 and I had to go play a soccer game that day. I told my mom I got my period and she came in and laid out all these pads and tampons on the bed and told me I could choose what I wanted to use. haha

  • I was a late bloomer too, I was 13 summer before 8th grade luckily I was at home!

  • I have no idea.  I remember about when it was but noooo idea what grade or age I was.  Now I am paranoid.  Am I the only one who doesn't remember exactly how old or what grade?  Am I special in a bad way?  Lol.

  • I was 11 too.

And I'm still really short and have no boobs whatsoever!!

  • A super late bloomer. I was 19 and in college, it was brought on by birth control.
  • I was like 9 or 10 and I hated it! I was the first one of my group of friends to get it and so of course they kept asking me about it and stuff. I hated being "different." My sister is 13 and still hasn't gotten hers, and I'm so glad. It's not fun starting that young!
  • I was 10 and in 4th grade. I was so embarrassed to tell my teacher at school that I had pads in my backpack.
  • LoL THIS! Except for the age.  I really don't remember how old I was, just that I was like the last one left without it.
