So, you guys know I am really close to my family, and take what they say to heart.
Preface: My mother doesn't think I should travel far while pregnant
Topic: H and I were approached by our neighbors if we wanted to go to Puerto Rico w/ them and another couple in March. I will be about 26 weeks pregnant. My OB has told me it is OK to fly until 32. H and I want to go away before the baby is born; but started thinking of closer (read drive-able) options (e.g. Vermont, NYC, maybe even Montreal, etc)
Now, my only concern is we'd be staying at a hotel w/ a casino and the smoke. My other concern is they may want to go out to a bar, and I doubt I will want to do that at 26 weeks, and I am probably not going to want to go back to the hotel by myself, causing H to come with me...no biggie, but just throwing it out there.
I want to go and relax and unwind though...it would be for a Fri-Monday, coming back Tuesday. I think I will ask my OB on my appt on the 25th what she thinks, obviously- assuming all looks healthy still. But if you think I/we should go, how do I manage the mom?
Or should we just stick to somewhere a little closer?
Or if we travel, stick to the continental US- e.g...shorter flights like Florida, South Carolina, etc?

That's what I was thinking, also. I raised my concerns in going there w/ H last night.
I completely agree. I would definitely talk to the OB about this.
everyone has brought up valid points., but you need to decide what you're comfortable with.
if you want my opinion, if it were me, i probably wouldn't go...
ETA: i was 27 weeks when i ended up in the hospital on christmas eve.
I would say that between 20 and 30 weeks is the best time to travel while pregnant. I wouldn't consider PR to be "far" - how long is the flight?
Since your main goal is to relax and unwind, another location could be just as good.
For some reason I thought it was a further flight. It's only 4 hours if you get a direct.
Personally I would stay in the US. In the states I feel like you have a reasonable guarantee that if something should happen, you and the baby would be well taken care of. I know nothing of the healthcare system in PR, and would your insurance even cover you?
I really don't have the intention of freaking you out, but everything was absolutely perfect with my pregnancy, no complications, no extra weight gain, no blood pressure issues, baby was perfect. I have absolutely no idea why I went into labor early. About a month before I had Riley, my sister's best friend actually was traveling, a 10 hour drive from her home in Ohio, and she went into labor unexpectedly at 29 weeks. Her little boy was in NICU for 2 months, and her husband and other daughter were far away the whole time.
I probably wouldn't have had this perspective a year ago, but I'm firmly in the camp of 'play it safe' now.
