Poll: how many images did you get from your photographer?

I know there have been a ton of photo posts, but don't be mad.  I think I'm going to email my photographer again about my "missing" photos.  And her point is that 600 is a lot, and most photographers don't give nearly that many.  I'm just curious, how many did you get?

Re: Poll: how many images did you get from your photographer?

  • We had like 680, something like that.

In your case, though, it doesn't seem to be a matter of "600 is a lot," as much as it is that you paid for ALL those pictures, so you deserve to see them.

I don't buy the whole, "my name is on these pictures, so I don't want to give out the bad ones."
But guess what? If they are bad, then you won't use them at ALL, so why can't you see them and you, the customer, can be the judge if they are useable.

After all, you are the one that has to look at them for the rest of your life.

  • I got 844, but those 844 captured each moment that I was looking for, and I didn't feel like anything was missing.

And just because she doesn't feel that there were any gems she overlooked doesn't mean that you would come to the same conclusion. On our first engagement shot our photographer had a favorite photo that he edited/color-corrected, etc. that I couldn't stand!  Their taste in what's "good" doesn't always match the bride's!

  • When you ask to see the other photos, ask her if she can put them online, put a large "Proof" watermark on them, and also password protect the album...  this will allow you to view the photos and make the decision of what is good and what is not.

And her comment on "many photographers limiting how many photos they shoot" is a load of crap, IMO.  In the weddings I've shot, we average 5,000 shots (2 photographers), with every 3-4 photos being the 'same'.  That usually results in about 1000 'different' photos.  Sure, maybe 500 of those are really great, IMO, but all 1000 are available for the client to review.

  • I got almost 700 and they captured everything...some were not good but the fact was that I got them all on a dvd and 4x6s of them all so I could make the decision myself....eyes closed, sickened faces....and so on

  • 1339 - I just checked. I have 3 dics of photos, a disc of 700 of the ones he thought were the best and touched up, and a dvd slide show of those 700. There were a lot of gems in the other 1339 that I touched up myself and kept also. I'm glad he gave us all of them. Neither photog got a shot of me throwing the bouquet, tho! I was really upset about that. None of my guests even caught it, either.

  • Ok so I only have the online images right now and there are 656. I would be happy with this if we werent missing images from cocktail hour. I did email her to see what the deal was so I am hoping she gets back to me soon.

  • Does it say anywhere in your package how many photos it includes?  Mine says 600-800 photos and I ended up getting just under 1300.

I went to school for graphic design and photography. We were always taught that if you photograph a wedding you should shoot 1,000 MINIMUM. Of course some photographers will edit some out which will lower the final number. And as said above about what your photographer told you is a load of crap. Especially now that almost everyone shoots in digital photographers take EVEN more shots.

My final count for my photos was around 980 or somewhere along those lines.

  • We received 6 dvd's total, edited-large files, edited-small files (condensed for internet, small prints, etc) and originals.

We have 1762 unique pictures (but essentially 3 files of each w/the diff versions, so a total of over 5,000 picture files).

But even with all of those, while they are great, there are a few shots missed, like us physcially cutting the cake.

  • We had 2 photographers and got about 500 from each one so our total was about 1000 total...

  • We got 537.

  • The package doesn't specify a certain number, it just says "all."

And going back over the files (Hannah's use of the word unique got me thinking), 13 of the aforementioned 594 are duplicates, either by me (recropped) or by her (with her logo across the front).  And looking at the numbers as they sit right now, with 51random women polled (random as in all different socio-eco-physical locations), only 14% were given the same or less photos than I was.  So this "most photographers" crap is obviously untrue.
