What do you think of this house?

How stupid is the layout with the stairs in the middle of the house?

Re: What do you think of this house?

  • Yeah, not exactly the best placement, but one could totally make it work.  That place does look tiny though.

  • Small, for sure. It's an older home but a pretty good location close to the subway. Other (detached, larger) houses on the same street are $100k+ more expensive. Actually, I'm not really sure why there is this tiny little semi on the street nestled among those more expensive homes.

Toronto is such a city of randoms.

  • I agree with Raynes.  I think the stairs just look out of place because usually when there is a stairway in the middle, there are walls attached below.  In this case I think they were trying to make it look like there is more living space. Instead they got awkward.

I could see someone making it work, but it really does look tiny.

  • I don't know how much the staircase would bother me.  It separates the living and dining room without really closing them off from each other.

The fact that I can only see one drawer in the kitchen is more of an issue for me.  The counter space is good, though.

I like the amount of windows upstairs.  It looks like it would get good light.

I really like the bonus room and laundry downstairs.  There is so much you could do with that - office space, entertaining space, baby Ringy play room, a place for the piano.

  • I agree that the stairs are a bit strange, but not horrible. Your creativity could find a way to make it work.
  • Good call with the drawers in the kitchen, reba - I didn't even notice that! But perhaps that could be remedied by installing some pull-out baskets in some of the cabinets.

  • I think the place has tons of potential. I agree on the awkward stars but it seems like they tried to keep everything open. I think you could fine lots of storage containers to make your kitchen work for your needs. I think that would also be the case for your bathroom with needed storage. .

I think in this home storing out of site things will need some creative solutions. Since I assume in Toronto winter coats and boots are a must and a place to store them is needed. It seems on the main level there are no closets.

There are ways around it though, and creative solutions for every home. :) GL

  • Oh my gosh yes, the question of where to store the coats!

I was looking at that place earlier this week. Ah MLS, you're my crack.

  • I like it. It's clean and really nice looking on the inside.
  • I don't think I like the stairs just because I would be afraid my kids would play on them with them right in the middle of the room like that.
