blinking

Keaghan has been blinking a ton... not like in a cutesy I am playing way, but in a serious like he can't focus or there is something in there way... I have taken a look and I can't see anything... I am going to call the doc tomorrow but didn't know if you guys had any insight into what it might be?  He doesn't have any discharge or anything in there so I don't think its conjunctivitis or anything like that...

Re: blinking

  • Maybe it's just dry eye? Winter months are really dry and I know that I blink more just to try and keep my eyes happy.

  • I don't know what it could be, but Eli came down with conjunctivitis yesterday and there is definite redness with watery, yellow discharge so it doesn't sound like that!

  • Excessive blinking is not on this list of infant problems by the Amr. Optometric Assc.

so, dry eyes sounds plausible, but maybe a vision problem.

Check it out with the Dr, and maybe try out some of the visual tracking and depth perception activities they suggest to see if there seems to be an other issues you could bring up at the same time.

  • It could also be something as simple as an eyelash or a speck of dirt that got into one of his eyes.  I don't know at what age kids learn how to close only one eye at a time, but Helen can't do it yet.  He may be blinking because one eye was irritated.

BTW, it's hysterical to watch Helen try to wink.  She has a look of total concentration and determination and yet every time she still closes both eyes at once.
