I'm back from my vacation finally! It was great, although maybe a little exhausting. Morocco was amazing, people live so differently there. The food everywhere was really excellent too - we had a lot of cous cous and tagine. And in Spain we ate a lot of ham, which I expected, and eggs, which surprised me.
We started in Casablanca, where we went to Rick's Cafe (like in the movie). very tourtisty, but who cares. Next was Marrakech for a few days. The main square there was really cool - snake charmers and monkeys and all kinds of crazy stuff. Then we went on a 4 day tour that took us to the Sahara Desert and back. That was maybe my favorite part of the trip. On Christmas Day we road camels and watched the sunset from the top of a 250 ft sand dune. Really cool. It was a little weird, though, being in a Muslim country, because there was really no celebration of christmas at all.
Next we went to the small town called Moulay Bousselham on the coast to visit a national park and see flamingoes. While there we took a "taxi" that was just a small trailer pulled behind a motorbike. ha! Then we went to Fes which has an awesome medina that you just get completely lost in. Darren had a camel burger there - he said it was really good.
After our 2 weeks in Morocco we spent a week in Spain - mostly in Madrid and a few small towns around it. It snowed a little while we were there. Madrid is a really cool city, but I really enjoyed the small towns. It was fun hanging out in the little bars and getting tapas because the restaurants didn't even open for dinner until 9pm.
Our flight home was a mess. The original flight was cancelled, and after hours and hours of waiting in lines at the airport we got put on another flight the next day. That flight was ok, except everything was delayed and we didn't get home until super late. It was exhausting, but in the end worth it.
I'm glad to be home though, sleeping in my own comfy bed. Apparently overseas people think everyone likes really firm mattresses and flat pillows lol.
So there's my "short" overview! I'll try to get a few pictures to share soon. The hardest part will be picking out just a couple of the best ones!
