Recommend a vacuum please!

I am so SICK of this Dirt Devil POS DH bought (back when we were engaged) and I just wanna throw it.

It does not suction at all. It's gotten to the point where I just sweep our carpets because that works better. I tried to vacuum the dog hair off our couch just now and it didn't do anything so I just lint rolled it.

When my mother comes down to visit, I always have her bring her Dyson so I can vacuum my carpets. I love it.

While I would love the Dyson Animal, realistically we can't afford it. Crying

So could anyone suggest a relatively cheap and good vacuum? You know, just until I save up for my Dyson. Smile Thank you SOOO much!!

Re: Recommend a vacuum please!

  • The Shark Navigator with pet hair attachment. It's at Bed Bath and Beyond so you can use your 20% off coupon - it's around $130 or so with the coupon.

It's seriously the best vaccum. Lightweight, easy to maneuver,  GREAT power. When I got mine, a Dyson rep was at the vacuum display and said it's a great vacuum too! My mom and sister both have it as well.

  • I have had the same vacuum for the last 4 years and I love it. Its a Bissell, some kind of Pet Pro I can't find the exact one on their website, but its an upright. I love it because it does a great job on the floors but you can also lift the canister off so you can do the stairs without the hassle of the upright or even clean the car. We got ours at Kohls during one of their sales and got two vacuums for the price of one. I got the pet pro and a deep carpet cleaner. Anyway, I love their products and highly suggest them. Good product for a good price.
  • Maybe this will make you feel better :) - we have a Dyson Animal and I don't like it.  I know I am in the minority of all Dyson owners, but I am just not impressed..it doesn't pick up the dog fur/dirt the way I think a vacuum that costs that much should.  I have used a different model Dyson (yellow) and think it worked much, much better.

Surprise I've never met anyone who didn't like their animal. I'm geniunely shocked!

I love the animal. That's what my mom brings over and it's CRAZY all the hair it gets up!

    The price is crazy, though.

And thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I'm trying to convince DH to come with me to BB&B tomorrow. I wish I could show you how nasty this floor looks AFTER trying to vacuum with that POS I have now.

  • have you considered a refurbished Dyson? When I moved to this house I gave my Dad my old one (Animal) and got myself a refurb delivered from overstock - great price- would never know it wasn't new.
  • Ditto to PP.... I've seen refurb's @ Fry's (not sure you have one near you)? They sell them for a fraction of a new..

  • We have this vacuum. It's good. It gets clogged fairly easily, which is frustrating. I feel for the price the vacuum wasn't worth it.

  • I have the Dyson Animal-bought it in 2008 and I don't like it either.  Glad to see someone else say they are not crazy about it. I am thinking of bringing it to be repaired because  I think it has lost suctioning.
  • If you decide to spend the money on a dyson animal, I would consider Miele's canister vacuum. This is my dream vacuum. They make uprights too and they are more expensive then canisters. Great suction, there is no ball so you can vacuum under furniture, two HEPA filters, on board attachments, and so much more.
  • For our wedding gift my grandmother bought me an oreck. I think its the newest style. Its upright and super light. The only thing I dislike about it is that it doesn't have attachments. But other than that the suction is great.
