Hobby Storage Space in Apartments

Hello, Everyone,

I live in a 900 square foot apartment with my future-husband and both have a myriad of athletic and creative hobbies.  We have some space in a small storage cube outside of the apartment, but other than that, our closets within the apartment are engaged storing our daily use items such as clothing and coats.

I was wondering if anyone had some budget-friendly small-space storage solutions they may have used for storing items like racing bikes, skis, helmets, seasonal sports clothing and footwears, sewing and other crafting supplies and the like.

 Thanks,

  • I thought this was pretty interesting for bike storage... but you'd need a free wall.

Your skis could go under a bed. That's where my brother keeps his snowboards.

Use all of the verical space in your closets. Get some stackable bins and store your off season clothing in them. You can either stack them 2 or 3 high on the closet shelf or put them on the closet floor and put your in-season shoes on top of them instead of lined up on the floor.

Otherwise, Ikea is your friend. Before we bought our townhouse, H and I lived in a 850 sq ft apartment that was nearly completely furnished in Ikea. Their items really are multi-purpose and inexpensive. We had things stashed in the strangest, most unassuming spaces (bike helmets inside an ottoman, sewing supplies in a dresser in the hall, candles filling the bottle spaces in a wine rack).

  • Ikea has some great folding storage units that attach to the wall then fold out.
