Ok, so our living room is really long, so we kinda have to split it up into the "tv/living room part" and "something else". I could really use a desk/office-type area so i think that's where this will end of going.
This is the LR area (we've moved the couch to face the fireplace, TV is mounted above it now) Green chair is right in front of where the pic was taken):
This is the office (will be) area:
I'm going to be painting the mantle/fireplace surround white, and we have white trim in the LR part (i still have to paint the trim in the Office part)...so i was thinking sometimes like this for the part of the room where the TV stand/blue chair is.
What do you think?

I'd also like to put some floating shelves like these above the desk for storage, decorations stuff.

Thoughts??? We can't spend alot of money which is why im looking at target and those places. I looked at Ikea online but most of it is too modern for our 1946 house.

Re: LivingRoom/Office Decorating help needed! :)
my read shelf:
I love the desk and bookcase! And I think they would both look great in the office space. I agree with Nicole - you could do green as your accent color to tie in the green chair in the living room.
As far as "cheaper" furniture from Target - just because it's lower cost doesn't mean it's bad quality! I had an entertainment unit that I bought from Walmart that lasted so long....the only reason we don't have it anymore is because we sold it before we moved. It was solid and sturdy for sure!
