becky: I said the part about not leaving the hospital because of both you and I... though you guys waited longer than we did.
Holly: My cousins little boy Jack's real name is John. I had never heard Jack as a nickname for John before I think it is so cute! (Though maybe I'm partial because this particular Jack rocks my socks. He is the most polite 5 year old in the world)

Jack is an old school nickname for John. I had a teacher in middle school who's official name was John but socially he went by Jack. How I know that I'm not sure.
I just wonder if he'd/we'd get annoyed always having to say in school that he/we go by Jack rather than John. But obviously Jack John won't work and we'd like John in there somewhere. We haven't agreed on any other boy names, except potentially using Daniel has a MN if we use John as a first name. But I don't want to first name to be Daniel.
My grandfather's name was John but people called him Jack.
I used to want Jack but my Dad said there were too many dirty nicknames for Jack so I'm rethinking it. Plus Pat's not in love with it like I am.

I don't know how that's much different than another nickname - like I always had to tell people I preferred Becky over Rebecca. That wouldn't keep me from doing John/Jack.
My friend's dad is a John who goes by Jack.

Any time Becky!
Holly I totally like it. And like Becky said it is like any other nickname.
